I want to get my DIL a locket necklace for her 1st Mother's Day but am clueless about styles 20-something mom might want. She has a Juicy charm bracelet but she doesn't want to add any more charms to it. She doesn't wear much jewelry but does like her Juicy charm bracelet. She is not "bling" gal.

Specifically, I want to put a pic of her newborn in it. Engraving is not necessary.

Help..... please!

Although it may be too late for guaranteed for Mother's Day delivery check out SayWhat Creations on Etsy or Facebook. I don't think she does the original locket but she does lots of different kinds of jewelry and can do laser etching on most pieces that can include footprints, finger prints and picture images. You can add personalization on most pieces and I think also birthstones.

I know it's not exactly what you were looking for but the items are very popular especially with her age group.

Good luck!! I know I'd greatly appreciate the gift from my mil!

Now - it isn't exactly what you were looking for since you can't add an actual photo but have you considered a living locket?

I am 26 with a 2.5yr old.. I would love to have a living locket over one with a photo.. locket photos are so small and I have many in my wallet. With the living locket you can get charms and such in the locket that represent the child.. Initial, birthstone, a heart, one that says mom.. etc. They are really quite pretty.

Just a thought, a little twist on your original idea.

Another vote for the Origami Owl living lockets, much more modern than a photo locket and it is something she can change or add to as time goes on. I have 800+ photos of my almost one year old on my phone, I really don't need or want a tiny picture in a locket to wear around my neck but I would really like a living locket from Origami Owl

Just my 2¢ from this youngish, relatively new mom that doesn't wear much jewelry either :goodvibes

Im not such a fan of the living locket. I would go with a traditional locket.

Another option is a shoe. My husband bought me a gold enameled pink shoe when my daughter was born. I wear it daily and people always ask about it.

The best part is every night at bed time my daughter will hold the charm and say "shuuu"

Just a thought. He paid about $125 for mine, but said they had silver ones under $50.

What a sweet MIL you are OP!

I DH bought me a necklace with a locket 2X, one for each new baby. When my kids were younger they loved being able to look at themselves when I wore the lockets. They are teenagers now and just find them embarrassing, but I still love them.

Some of the ones one etsy are very pretty, good luck shopping!

:( I just remembered my oldest turned 20 this past Saturday, so now I only have 1 teenager and a what? An adult son? :faint:

If she's not a bling girl and doesn't wear jewelry, are you sure a locket is the way to go? I don't wear jewelry often. My MIL has bought me a locket or cameo necklace for each kid and they just sit in the jewelry box because I don't wear stuff like that. I feel bad that I'm wasting her money and trying not to be unappreciative, but it's not just not me. It also makes me a little sad that she knows this, but buys it for me anyhow because it's what she wants, not what I would.

My DIL is an old soul in a young body. She would love the idea of something traditional to keep. I would not expect her to wear it often but I want something that she would be comfortable wearing.

I am considering a locket without engraving so that it can be meaningful to her as a Mother, not just for her first child. When we were able to adopt our first child, we never thought we would be blessed with a second adoption. I had a couple of really nice pieces of jewelry that were specific for our first child and never wore them again when our DS was born. With a locket, she can change the picture or put locks of hair in it. Lots of possibilities with a locket to adapt for future blessings.

Another option would be to add charms for additional children BUT I would need to be sure the company or design would be around for several years.

Thanks for ALL of your suggestions and comments!

Thanks, everyone! I decided to order from Origami Owl when I learned I can put a picture on the back. Thanks, AverageDiser, for the info. :cool1:

LOVED all of your pics and recommendations. It was a hard decision but I think this one will "fit" her best.
