I was sent an email that appeared to be from ebay. I didn't click on any of the links because I remembered reading on this site about other people being sent fake emails. I contacted ebay and sent them the email but haven't heard from them. I currently have things listed on ebay and am worried that they have suspended me. Please let me know what you think. This is what is in the body of the email. I noticed even that there are grammatical errors which also made me suspicous (sp?).

eBay needs a correct information from you.

eBay requires correct credit card information in full each month on accounts with balances of $1.00 or greater and if your account becomes past due. We are unable to verify or authenticate your credit/debit card information on file with us. You have been pre-indefinitely suspended from eBay because credit cards information incorrect (credit card number, pin, expdate or cvv2 code). If you feel you have been suspended in error or want to appeal this decision by providing additional information, we offer you the ability to place or change the information you submit to us.
Important: In order to continue buying and selling, you must have a valid account information on file at eBay. Please update information in your eBay account now by click here and entering the new information yourself in your account. Or click to this link below :

Per the User Agreement, Section 9, we may immediately issue a warning, temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend or terminate your membership and refuse to provide our services to you if we believe that your actions may cause financial loss or legal liability for you, our users or us. We may also take these actions if we are unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide to us. Due to the suspension of this account, please be advised you are prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the registering of a new account.

An email regarding this was sent to you at xxxxxxxxx.

Forward the email to spoof@ebay.com, they will get back to you whether it is from them or not.
In the meantime if you are concerned about your credit card info you go into your account directly (not through the link) and update your info.

Sad to say but 99% of the emails I get from Ebay like that and EVEN PAYPAL are ALL SCAMS!! I pretty much forward everything to Spoof@ebay.com. Unbelievable the amount of scammers out there!

I get several a week, it's just ridiculous.

I got the same one. If you are ever in doubt, don't click on anything, close the email and go to your my ebay page. If your stuff is still listed, then you know it's a hoax. If it's gone, then it wasn't. EBay will take your items off right away if it were real.

I got an email like that just over a month ago and was scared to death. I did the spoof thing and also emailed ebay. It was not from them. I didn't click thru on anything and I so far have not had any problem.:earsgirl:

If you go to these sites you will discover they want a LOT more then just your CC info. This is a prime identity theft just waiting to happen.

That sounds like classic fraud email. I get some almost identical to that a few times a week. I emailed them to ebay at first now I just delete them. Ebay NEVER sends emails asking for personal info.

FYI: If anyone does ever believe these emails and enters their info, call your bank (ebay, local law enforcement, etc.) asap and let them know so they can change all your info right away. One of my neighbors answered one of these emails and someone stole 1500. out of her bank account. It took her 5 mos to get everything fixed and back to normal with all her bills (several bounced checks due to the stolen $$). It was a nightmare!

definitely NOT from ebay!

Some tell tale signs:

You have been pre-indefinitely suspended from eBay because credit cards information incorrect.

Ebay would never send you an email with grammar that terrible! Pre-indefinitely isn't even a word! "because credit cards information incorrect" doesn't make sense either.

Look at that link. It's not secure. Ebay's sign in page would start with https I think it's more like ebay.signin as well.

Was it addressed to you by name or your ebay ID or to your email address? An email directly from ebay will always address you either by name or user ID, never your email or "ebay user/member." Same with Paypal, they will address you by name or by your business name if you have a business account.

Definitely forward it to spoof@ebay.com so they have a record of it.

I actually got three yesterday. One really looked authenic. I forward them all to Ebay.

Thank you so much!!! I emailed it to ebay at the spoof address you all gave me. I haven't deleted the email yet since I haven't heard from ebay. It was addressed to my email account nothing by my user name. How would they know I have an email account. Should I change my account info. directly through the ebay site just to safeguard those accounts I've already listed? It's really scary that there are people out there like this!!!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My local news station just did a story on fake emails from ebay wanting your information. Clicking on any of the links can cause virus or worms or hackers. I wouldnt open it.
Id rather have a sale fall through than to chance it. JMO
Good luck hope you get it resolved soon.

Hi- I don't ebay but I get these all the time from banks and earthlink, who is my ISP...in fact, I received 3 supposedly from earthlink last week, all on the same day, right in a row. THEY ARE ALL FRAUDULENT!!! In fact, earthlink has examples of the fraudulent email being sent in their name right on their site! Never, never, never send your banking info out over the net when requested in this manner. When you order from a reputable company it is a different story, given encryption, knowing from whom you are ordering, etc. If you receive these emails and have any questions, call the company directly and tell them what's going on. They'll let you know if this is truly a problem with your account or a scam. It's hard to know as these scams look very real, with authentic-appearing logos, etc., but do not be fooled! I've had requests from a variety of "banks" also (citibank, wells fargo, sun trust, etc), asking me to update my accounts, provide checking/savings account numbers, credit card numbers, etc. All fraudulent! It really makes me mad, because I know that some people- like my 78 yr old mom- would trustingly do this and get cleaned out. What a world, sometimes, huh?

I got one of the spoof emails pretending to be from ebay a long time ago. I reported it to ebay and the email I got back from them said if I had clicked on any of the links, many of them contain viruses, worms or what they called "keystroke viruses". Those can track your keystrokes and send information regarding passwords, etc back to the person who send the email without you being aware of it at all.
Ebay said not to ever click on any or the links or even roll over them to check the address. They said if it's an email that asks for personal information, it's probably a spoof.

We also get many e-mails from E-Bay requesting passwords, etc.
We have found them all to phony and forward them over to the company. E-bay has sent out e-mails saying never to provide information.

I get these all the time. I knew it was a scam right away since i don't use paypal and e-bay does not have my cc #'s.

Ebay and other accounts you might have (credit cards, isp's) would never send you an e-mail asking you to link to update your account like that. It is a scam. I delete them all. The grammar is usually terrible and sometimes the graphics are too. Never, ever give your personal info to a site you're asked to link to like that. If you're ever in doubt, call or email directly (through their homepage, not the email sent to to you) and ask about it. A lot of people fall for these scams and get their credit screwed up as a result. All of these places have back up systems for their account info and do not lose it. They all do automatic backups probably everyday and some mulitiple times in a day to tape or cd so if they do have a system crash, they still have their data. They're not going to risk losing customers over hard drives dying. Just like you should back up your own data, these sites have IT people that back up theirs.
