Here is the deal. I tried WW for 3 month and lost all of 2lbs, which promptly came back on after one pizza binge.

I then tried the diabetic 1200 calorie diet. I suspect I have some sort of insulin resistance due to some symptoms I have, but my blood sugars do not run high. Again, takes a month to see any weight loss.

I tried low carb. Promptly lost 14lbs in 2 weeks over the holidays. Got constipated, read about all the health problems related with low carb and got freaked out.

I have yet to gain those 14lbs back, but feel like I need to write my own diet plan using mostly whole foods. The recipes in south beach were all yuck to me.

Sooo...does this sound insane? I want to cut out wheat, rice, potatoes, sugar and processed foods. I plan on eating like this...

1 cup outmeal for breakfast
Apple or banana (or any fruit) for snack with my sugar free vanilla latte
Lunch either can of veggie soup or a veggie/chicken salad (no fatty stuff) or a berry/protein shake
Dinner is meat and veggies...no carbs
Snack would be cheese stick and v-8
Desert is sugar free jello

1 cup popcorn or a sugar free yogurt if I'm desparate, lol (I need desparation foods)

Calorie total would be around 1400 for this. Does this sound reasonable?? It is a little low on dairy, but I take a calcium supplement.

I seem to do sooo much better when I stick to whole foods and limit my carbs, but don't want to all out atkins it.

I'm not a nutritionist, but it looks like it's ok to me. You've got a good amount of balanced calories and if you throw in some exercise and extra water along the way, you may see what it is you want.

Let me know how you are doing with this.

I'm glad you are not giving up. You keep on keepin on.
:cheer2:

Try counting calories at www.sparkpeople.com

You can really work on getting the proper nutrients and right ratio of carbs/protein and fats there.

I do both Weight watchers and Sparkpeople. I like to either count points or calories. I want to know when I need to stop eating for the day.

Its nearly impossible to give accurate diet advice without knowing more info like, age, height/weight, activity level, etc...

But a few things I see right away, eat some protein first thing in the morning with breakfast. Going from dinner to lunch the next day without any protein is too long. Also, 1400 cals seems really low. Give us some more info and we can more specific advice.

Good luck.

More info..

Anytime I go over 1500 calories I gain weight, unless I am lo carb.

I'm 33, go to the gym 3x a week where I do 20-30 minutes of cardio, 15 minutes weights, then stretching and abs so I'm there for about an hour. 3 other days a week, I walk for 30 minutes.

I'm about 5'7" and I weighed 145lbs last december, went on prednisone and progesterone and went up to 190 by October. I went off the meds and started dieting WW, didn't really lose, diabetic diet, didn't really lose. I am back down to 176 by following a low carb diet for 2 weeks at the end of December. I went off of it after reading about the health problems.

Not sure I can eat much more than 1 cup of oatmeal in the mornings. I guess I could add a couple nuts, but the calories in nuts scare me.

I'd like to get down to 140 by summertime so can fit back in my size 6 shorts. I want to do it in a heart healthy way.

I talked with a dietician when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and she told me that no food is off limits to me, it just needs to be eaten in moderation.

I started walking and counting calories and within 5-6 months I had lose 40 pounds. But, I hit a plateau, got lazy, gave up, gained 18 pounds back. :(

So, I'm back to counting calories and exercising again. I did it once, I know I can do it again.

If you limit the foods you eat, you may get bored. And you said you plan to cut out wheat, potatoes and rice. I don't think I would do that. Whole wheat is good for you, potatoes have a lot of vitamins (it's the toppings we put on potatoes that aren't good - try a small baked potato with a couple tablespoons of salsa, it's great!) and try whole grain brown rice or wild rice instead of white.

I'm sticking with about 1300 calories, or less (1000 if possible - day before yesterday it was only 800 for the day) and being more careful about the carbs too.

I truly feel that exercising is a big boost to dieting. I don't think I could have lost 40 pounds as easily/quickly without it.

Good luck to you!
