We have a Disney vacation planned in August. I'm making dining reservations now. We haven't been as a family since 2012. Our oldest son is now 14, and our younges son is 9. I'd like to do at least one character breakfast b/c I know the boys wont wait in lines for the characters now. I think our 9 year old would still enjoy seeing them and he has been asking for a while to go back to Disney. We normally do Chef Mickey, but I'd like to try someplace different. I was thinking:

Hollywood & Vine (dinner)
or
Tusker House with ROL package (dinner)

Also, thoughts on La Hacienda?

We've never eaten at any of these three, so please help us decide!

Oh, and it's a surprise trip for our youngest son's birthday! He will turn 10 during our stay.

Thank you!!

I would choose Tusker House over Hollywood and Vine (plus you can get the ROL package like you mentioned as an added bonus).

We really like La Hacienda de San Angel, although there seem to be many people who don't like it at all. We have always had excellent food (and yummy margaritas) there. My DH and I typically split one of the "for two" entrees so I can't speak to much else on the menu.

I have only done Tusker for dinner which I would certainly recommend. Be aware that ROL dining packages have not yet been released beyond June. I'm waiting to book one for July.

I've only done Tusker House, but it's good. Not fantastic, but good. Being from Houston, I'd never give La Hacienda San Angel a chance, maybe that's wrong, I just can't picture myself not being disappointed.

I would do Tusker over H&V. If you're open to other suggestions, Garden Grill is our favorite character meal!

OK. Thanks! I've got Tusker House booked. I'll keep looking for ROL times to hopefully make that work also. (Cancelling Hollywood and Vine).

We'll give La Hacienda a try. We LOVE margaritas. Plus its supposed to be more authentic mexican and we our good friends Mom (who is Mexican) cooks for us a lot and it's always delicious. Hoping La Hacienda will be (read mixed reviews).

Beer Me - I do get it. We live along the coast of SC and eat a lot of fresh seafood. It's the reason why we don't eat seafood anywhere 'inland'.

ENJDisneyFan - Yes, Garden Grill has been one of our favs too. Just trying to branch out a bit this visit. We may end up there again though. We love Chip 'n Dale.

I agree with Tusker House over H & V. But it will be a totally different reservation for the ROL package. La Hacienda is more authentic Mexican than Americanized Tex Mex that many are used to

If your men like meat and potatoes like mine do, I recommend Trails' End at Ft Wilderness. I really think they'd like Sci Fi Dine In at Hollywood Studios. Neither are character meals but both have good food and a good experience.

Thanks for those suggestions. We may try Sci Fi if we can get reservations.
