I think probably the biggest thing is consider your budget and what you get for the money. The deluxe resorts are easy to get back to. If the little ones want to take a nap, this can be great - BUT - WL and Contemporary are areally only close to MK. the mods are further out, but you can go abck to ANY for a mid day break.
Usually Disney won't guarentee adjoining rooms, but they will come pretty close to it if the parents are in one room and kids are in the other. Often too, if they aren't adjoining they will be next to each other or very close.
If the deluxe rooms are inthe budget, then I would say, largely you get what you pay for at WDW.
I often choose mods to save money, and have even recently stayed at two value resorts (Really, they were not bad at all.) All of the resort have great theming, so ou could easily base a great stay on the theming you like best and ahave a great trip! I really like CSR and CBR. They are LARGE resorts (lots of walking), but they have great pools with great theming. I've never eaten table service at either, becuse the table service gets okay reviews. The food courts at these resorts are great though! They are the way to dine when staying there. Both have lots of choices and they are fast. I never eat at mall food courts, but I really like the WDW food courts for the most part. I'm all about getting to the parks quickly, so I like the food courts. the only downside to these resorts is that the busing is SLOW.
The deluxe resorts ARE the most magical though. I've stayed at GF and WL, among others. I've visited the Poly and Contemporary. I think any of them would be great. I think Poly is tops for transportation, but lacks a whirlpool. Yikes on the price of Poly! WL is very nice and has the most reasonable price of them. It also has great theming. Contemporary is a classic and has a computer in each room. The rooms were recently renovated, but that resort has a weak pool and is likely to have ongoing construction for some time. The Contemporary's pool does have a slide, but almost no theming to it. WL has a great pool with lots of theming, but no monorail access. All three have great TS dining options, but all three are weak on QS eating options. (the Epcot area reosrts all have great pools, great dining, great location -but no monorail and high prices.) Deluxe resorts also have the biggest rooms, though I find the mods plenty big enough.
No matter which you pick you are sure to have a great time!
