I'm running in the WDW marathon in January, and currently have a studio at OKW booked for that stay. I was planning on switching to BWV at the 7 month window, but now I'm wondering if OKW would be a better choice for the marathon cause I'm going to need a good nights sleep the Saturday night before the marathon, and need to get to sleep early!!! BW has the DJ out til 11pm on saturday nights!

So, my question is, if we stay at OKW, is there anywhere to get food after 10pm, cause we would be arriving late friday night!

I just had a thought, if I request quiet pool area at BWV, would I be able to hear the DJ from there!???

also there would be no friendship horns past like 8pm from MGM cause the park closes early in January?!

just trying to figure out where would be the best place to stay for the marathon?!
BWV would definately be more convenient, cause we could get food late friday, and also the marathon starts at Epcot!
Loudness wasn't an issue during our recent stay at the BW, but we didn't go to sleep til midnight everynight. If I need to go to sleep by 9 or 10pm saturday night, I need quiet. Can I have that at the quiet pool view, or does the sound from the BW carry over???

thanks!!!

Laura :) :) :)

I stayed in the quiet pool area last May. I heard no noise from the BW itself and only an occassional boat horn. I was on the third floor so with the porch doors closed it was fairly quiet.

After a marathon I think I'd prefer OKW though. I wouldn't want to walk that long hallway at BWV to get to the room. One marathon a day is enough. ;)

I ran last year and am going to this year too. The race starts on the highway that is at the end of the OKW access road. It is right by the overpass. You are supposed to go to the epcot parking lot and then walk over to the highway for the start. Itf you stay at OKW you can walk to the start from OKW. This is only if you have nothing to drop off at the baggage claim. We go to the food court at Dixie Landings for late night food. There is a bus fromn all the resorts. I would say that you will be so ready to run by then that it wont matter where you stay. Just dress warmly for the start it was 30 degrees for the start last year and alot of people weren't prepared.

I have stayed at the BWV for the during the past 5 marathons. I don't think there was a DJ on site this past January the night before the marathon. In fact, I don't ever recall seeing a DJ in January, only when we are there in June. I am not much of a runner, but I did run in the 5k a few years ago. It was a blast, one of the best times I have ever had at WDW. It's just a coincidence that my family and I have been at WDW for every marathon.

Hi,
We stayed at BC last year when we did the half marathon. Even though we were so close, walking was not an option, we had to take a bus. If you can walk from OKW, that would be very nice. We went to the bus stop at 3:30am! It was so cold.

As far as a good night sleep...we tried and failed. We were so excited about our first big race. I think we maybe slept a couple hours. It really didn't matter, we were full of energy. We even tried to nap later in the day and couldn't!

We've signed up to do the half again next year and will be staying at VWL for our first trip home. We are so excited!

Have fun training! I'm sure whatever you decide, you'll have a great time. :)

We were at OKW during marathon weekend this past January. We did not participate, but were awoken at about 3AM by loudspeakers giving instructions to the runners. They sounded like they were righr outside our window. Also they had banks of spotlights that were shinning into the rooms. You may sleep before the race, but you will absolutly not sleep through it.

I ran the marathon last year and we stayed at BWV both for the marathon and again in March. We did not get in until after midnight on Friday. You cannot hear the music from your room. Things are pretty quiet. If you get a standard view room, or facing the canal to MGM you will be far away from any Boardwalk activities. Unless you don't get any sleep at all, lack of sleep the night before an event doesn't have an adverse affect. Granted you don't go out drinking... The nights leading up to an event and taper are more important.

We were at OKW for the Marathon the last three years --we didn't run but enjoyed cheering the participants on. We didn't hear any loudspeakers or have any lights shine into our room. Guess it depends on what building you are in. It was very quiet around bldgs. 45/46. I was surprised to hear that there was that much action around OKW!!
