My nephew fell yesterday and has broke his arm. They're putting a cast on it today (probably already on). We have a group of kids so we really can't cancel the trip. Was wandering what rides he could ride. He's 4 yr old, so I'm sure that he won't be able to ride a lot of the bigger rides like the roller coasters or the TOT. I'm thinking he could ride some as long as they weren't wild. Anyone have this problem and can help me? We leave Thursday and will be there on Friday.

Thanks for any information, I'm desperate!!!!

:confused3

I would think he should be able to ride nearly everything he wanted to (and was able to - height restrictions) with the exception of some of the water rides. And even then if you cover the cast with plastic he may be able to do some of them.

If the cast goes up to his shoulder he might have some problems with rides that use shoulder harnesses (Mission:Space, RnR, etc.) but being 4yrs old do you really want him on those anyway? Does he even make height requirement?

Don't sweat it.

Dont worry about it at all. There is no need to cancel. There are many people that are there with broken bones, torn ligaments etc. Disney is very accommodating (sp?) to people who may need assistance. They would advise what he would or would not be able to do. I would say that he could do nearly everythig with the exception of rides with shouldter restraints and some water rides. I brok my thumb many years ago and needed a cast up to my elbow. When I took showers I used a large plastic bag (actually it was a Thomas' Engllish Muffin Bag) and put that on my arm and uses rubber bands to keep it closed. IT worked fine. You will still have a wonderful time

I don't have any specific information, but just go with the flow. Help him to enjoy the trip. Don't dwell on what he can't do, look at what he can. Is the cast waterproof? He can play in the fountains and the pool. The waterslides might be out, but at least he can get wet. Hey, he's only 4, lie to him about the rides, say he's too small. :)

We have done the Land twice with my son in a cast on his left arm. Both of the casts only went to his elbow, not over it. The Orthopod was great, he insisted on a waterproof cast so that my DS could still swim and do water rides. He had no restrictions at all. We did California Screamin' (the looping coaster at CA) and the restraints were fine. Tot and all the rest in DL were no problem. He was 10 so he was able to ride everything.

The best part was we "saved" the cast from all signatures until we got to the park and had only the characters sign it. They were so great to give me a little extra magic because of the fracture and he got some really fun signatures.

PS Make sure your Dnephew is very careful after the cast is removed. The arm is very fragil for some time after the cast is off. We learned this the hard way and refractured several weeks after the cast came off. It's a real bummer to live through this twice :guilty:

Good luck
I bet you'll have a wonderfullly magical time!

Thanks. I was just having a guilt trip. He was at my house playing when he fell. You know how Aunt's can be.

You're right about the height requirement. I just wasn't thinking. I was just worried that he was all set to go and now he would be disappointed.

Thanks. (I didn't even thing of a bread or Muffin bag to cover it during showers!) They ended up not putting the swim cast on so we will definately being staying away from water!

We thought that they were putting a waterproof one on but they didn't. The doc said that he could ride whatever Disney would let him. I'm sure that he probably wouldn't be tall enough for everything. I'm sure he couldn't ride the roller coasters now but like you said we're not going to dwell on this. I'm thinking he's still going to have a good time. We're going to make it exciting for him. He's going to there with is cousin's. Sometimes the adults make it harder than it really is. I know I'm guilty of that!

I'm not sure, but I think his maybe to his shoulder. We have already discussed the characters signing it for him. I feel so much better that others have had this problem and it didn't ruin the vacation. I was so bummed that he wasn't going to be able to do a lot of stuff. He and my sons have been jazzed about this trip. We've been planning since Thanksgiving for this.

Sorry to hear that he has a cast on, but he will still have plenty of fun and don't forget the autographs from the characters.

Hakuna Matata.....Have fun!!! :cool1:
