We're heading down to FW in April for our first time and are coming from CT. My question is, have any of you done that trip and where are there some really nice campgrounds to stay at along the way? Any help or hints would be so much appreciated!! Thanks! :scratchin

We drive a motorhome from NH with a DD(4). We usually stop at a truckstop/Walmart for naps (2-3 hours). We're usually too excited to get to Disney so we opt not to spend an entire night sleeping at a campground. We usually make 2 nap stops along the way. When we arrive at Disney we set up, take another nap and then it's off to the parks. Just thought I'd share how we travel to Disney. It works out well as we do a lot of night driving while our DD is sleeping.

Thank you for responding. We've got about 3 weeks off and were hoping to see some sights along the way. We've got a DD(4) and another DD who is (2) and we'd like to hit some neat places along the trip down there. We were going to try out Myrtle Beach and other places, too. I guess I'll check in with AAA to see if they have any ideas of where to find campgrounds with good reputations. Again, thank you so much for responding!! :flower3:

There are lots of campgrounds all up and down I95. None that we know of are good for much more than an overnight stop, but they are fine for that. We enjoy Savannah on the way down or back, especially the restored historic area and waterfront. Just ten miles or so off I95. A search on Google for "campgrounds I95" will give you a big list.

We stopped at Jekyll island for a few hours, although we didn't camp there. I'd stay in the area overnight and explore, if we had the time. It's nice because it isn't far off 95.

They have a pool and a hot tub, they also have a nice nature trail through the trees, where you can see alligators in the wild. The do ask that you don't bring dogs on that trail. They are at mile marker 33 so you don't have a very long drive the next day. Our family always enjoy our stay there. If you can get there early enough in the day to enjoy the campground.

This past trip we stayed 1 night in Myrtle Beach. My parents go there for the winter and we wanted to stop by to give them their Christmas Gifts on our way to Disney.

We arrived at 2:30pm and left Myrtle Beach at 1am.

Myrtle Beach is probably nice in warmer weather. We were there on 12/16 and it was cool but better than NH. We stayed at Pirate Land Campground. The folks were nice and the price was great. I think there were a total of 3 RVs staying there. It was very quiet and right on the ocean. I'm sure they are very busy in the summer!

I doubt we will go there in March on our way to Disney....but you never know.

If you do go to Myrtle Beach, plan on 1.5 hrs from I95 to Myrtle Beach. We took route 17 from Myrtle Beach south through Charlotte and caught I95 at the end of South Carolina (a few miles from the Georgia line).

We drove Route 17 in the weeeee hours of the night. There's a nature preserve so it's quiet dark and isolated in spots. Charlotte wasn't bad as we drove through during the early morning hours.

hope this helps.

Thank you all so much for your responses. I did a "google" search and found loads of places along I-95 to check into. We want a nice leisurely trip down and want to stay in some decent places. This info gives me a good place to start my detective work!! Thanks again!

There is also a great State park just outside Jacksonville that has a fort and stuff. I agree that Savannah is beautiful, too, and has a lot of character. It's one of my favorite places to visit in Georgia.

We are from CT (Bristol) and are going in April too! When are you going? We leave the 13th and arrive in FW on the 15th. This will be our 3rd drive to Disney... second w/ the TT. We stay at a nice Walmart in Fredricksburg VA. there are tons of restaurants and shops in the area. Probably not what your looking for if you want to relax... we're so anxious to get to FW we just stop for the night.

Have a great trip!
