Need help - AP's and future stay

We will be purchasing AP's to Universal for a visit in April (returning in June). We want to stay On-site for 3 nights, so I'd like to have the AP discount. However, I won't need the AP until we arrive. Do I need to buy one now - that will already be 6 months in before it is even used - or is there a different way to approach it?

You can book with the discount whenever the discount shows up, and buy the AP just before the trip or even while on your trip. They will tell you when you need to show your AP if you don't have it, or don't have it activated, at checkin.

Yes, if you can book an AP rate, book it, you don't need to have an AP for the reservation.

I bought my AP online the day before we checked in. At check in at RPH, I just showed my receipt, and they never asked me again, and charged me the AP rate. I activated my AP the next day, when we were going to the park. Fast and easy activation at the kiosk right outside IOA - it spits out your AP. And best part, your year doesn't start until the day you activate.

AP discounts in April are rare, so make sure you actually have the discount before you purchase your AP.
