Help and thanks at the same time!

I want to thank everyone that has posted on the boards I've learned so much.

This will be my very first trip being totally dependent of an ECV. A little background I have RA (rheumatoid arthritis) up until this yr I've been able to manage by just taking it easy and spending a lot of time at the resort.

This trip (June 28, 2003-July 8, 2003) I will need an ECV all the time. Knees and feet have given up the battle, I just can't do the walking required at disney.

I am also very sun sensitive because of the meds. What I need to know is with the ECV will I be able to wait out of the sun just by telling CM's or do I need to go to guest relations for a GAC.

Opinions?

Thanks for any and all help

Thanks for the thanks.
You should go to Guest Services and explain your need to them. They have a Guest Assistance Card with just the stamp you need. It says something like "allow the guest to wait out of the sun if the regular queque is in the sun for a prolonged period of time." The good news for you is that most of the lines actually are shaded quite well, so you may only have problems at certain times of the day when a shade right overhead doesn't help much.

Thank you Sue:

We go every yr or every other yr, but I've never really had to worry before :)

Aren't meds wonderful :(

Jane,
While it is not easy to drive an ECV and hold an umbrella at the same time I would suggest you bring a small fold up umbrella to shade yourself. I was at Canada waiting for Off Kilter to perform and my DH thought he had saved a spot in the shade but by the time the show started we were in the sun. An umbrella would have been helpful.
Have a great trip.

Thank you! I would have never thought of that :) Hmmmm maybe take a clamp and clamp and clamp the umbrella to the ECV. Going to have to think about this :)

I don't know if this might be useful, but I recently tried Fallene sunblock (overpriced sunblock from Drugstore.com) and found that it was helpful. Regardless of my efforts to stay out of the sun, I have previously always gotten a sun-poisoning like rash on, at the very least, the back of my hands when I go someplace sunny. Ah, the joys of meds... It's expensive and gloppy but it did seem to work. It has physical blockers in it, which is what seems to make the difference. The "clear" is light skin tone, if you are not fair, I suggest the tinted kind (you add tint from a tube to make it your desired color, I assume it starts out like the "clear").

I second the umbrella suggestion, you can leave it in your basket when you are in motion. If you can rig something to attach it to the EVC, it might make people not walk into you as much!! I also flipped the towel I brought to sit on over my legs when I was sitting in a brighter area. The handicapped seating at MGM in front of the hat is awesome, the only time I can recall waiting for/seeing a parade in full SHADE!!! I've never gotten a GAC for sunny lines as I have not found that to be an issue since I can't recall ever having a line in the sun. General traveling around seems to be what gets me. RIT makes a product that allows you to build extra sun protection into regular garments.

I have to recommend the Fallene, though, it is the only thing I did different this trip and again ... no rash! This includes a day spent under an umbrella in Castaway Cay on the cruise and a little time in the water, which normally would have been a really bad idea.

:D Cupcake

You guys are all so great. I can't thank everyone enough. Like I said this is the first time I've really had to watch because of the meds. The sun actually makes me ill if I'm out more then an hour in direct light. I sat at a football game 2 weeks ago for about 2 hours, very over cast dreary day and by the time I got home I was ill :(

I really don't want to go through that again. I want shade and plenty of it :) LOL!

Jane
