Hi,

I was making a reservation yesterday. I have only 23 pts left in my BCV and was told in order to use the points I would need to either transfer points into the account (I only need 5, to complete the reservation) OR transfer those points to my BWV account, to use total 28 from there. I thought I could just use the 23 points then take the 5 from my BWV. This reservation is for the VWL at the 7 month window (we have never used our points outside our home resorts). So I am a little confused. Any tips on what we should do??? I do not want to get caught up in that 1 transfer per year thing, cause what if I need points for my Fall trip into BWV account.

Thanks,

The BCV & BWV contracts must be totally separate contracts (have different membership numbers and/or different use years). According to the rules as I understand them, you can only combine points from two contracts if one is a master and the other is an add on. In that case, you would have the same membership number for both contracts and the use year would be the same.

Would it work to transfer the 23 BCV points to your BWV contract and use them for the fall trip? Of course that would shorten your VWL trip. Perhaps you could book a cash night at the VWL to compensate? Or book a cash night for your fall trip if you are end up short points for that trip?

Other than that (paying for a cash night), I have no advice beyond what MS told you.

As Carol stated, if both contracts are from the same membership - master contract and add-on - you should be able simply combine all of the points for any reservation at 7 months.
If they are from different memberships you were advised correctly and your options are to transfer between those contracts to combine the points OR make as many nites as you can from one contract and then the rest from the other and have MS link them all together.
If you do a transfer, it will count as your single transfer for this Use Year for both accounts.

As Carol said, this would be correct if they are totally separate contracts. However, there are other things to think about. You could potentially borrow those points you need for that one night. Or you could do the transfer but you'd only want to if you didn't plan to do any other transfers or rentals for either contract otherwise. Depending on your use year you could also transfer from and to the preceding use year then bank the points you need which may be the best approach if applicable. In the past DVC would even let you do the transfer if these were banked or borrowed points, it remains to be see whether they will allow this flexibility now.

I have two master contracts. One master contract (my original with Disney) also has three add-ons to the contract. I can use points from that master contract easily. But the other master contract is totally stand alone and I have to use my once a year transfer to add points to that master from the larger master or vice versa. That transfer uses the once a year transfer for BOTH contracts. So no more transferring in or out for either.

I have a similar situation. One master contract with two add-on's, which totals the majority of my points.

I also have another master contract (different use year month), but it's large enough (100 points) that I can manage it separately by using banking/borrowing to accumulate enough points (up to 300) for a stand-alone reservation without needing to use the other contract. In this manner it's not necessary to transfer points between the two master contracts.

I think they should consider changing that rule then. maybe to one transfer in, not one transfer.

it wouldnt hurt the attempts to stop renting too much I wouldnt think. I would think the majority of those were multiple transfers in from many individuals.

Trust me on this. Given how the morphed points are getting manipulated, the restriction must be on transfers in both directions. Part of the abuse was also being done through transfers out.
