Need guidence on point transfer

I am trying to transfer points from another DVC member as I need more points. What is the best way to handle this? Once we agree on a price, Do I pay a deposit, then get the tranferred points and then pay the balance? Do I have to pay the full price and then get the points? How do I verify the other party is legit and I won't be out of a lot of money? would paying via paypal protect me in anyway?
As I have never done this before, please advise. thanks in advance

It's not much different than renting a reservation from someone. It's a private transaction between you and the other owner, so whatever you can agree on is what it will be. I would check the Rent/Trade board for advice on protecting yourself.

We have successfully done point transfers both in and out. Before we did them we read the sticky threads at the top of the rent/trade forum. There is always potential risk, but you can take some steps to minimize the chance of having a bad experience. Finding another member familiar with the process also helps. Remember you can no longer do more than one transfer per use year.

We have done Paypal and actually made the payment over the internet while on a conference call with MS and the other member to finalize the deal.

I have done 50% before transfer and 50% after points are transfered and verified in my account that way neither party has the whole amount at risk.
