Hello. I have the Dig RebelXT w/ the 18-55 lens. We're going to Disney in 30 days..yikes...and I'd like to upgrade.

I only want 1 lens I've decided. This trip is w/ 2 little ones and I have enought to carry around with me so if I need to forgo the longest zooms then so be it but I don;t want to be switching lenses.

Any advice on some good pultipurpose lenses. I like having the wider angles available. They come in good for on rides etc and sitting close to the kids.

I went to to Wolf..just to look in person and grab a catalog. I know there are better online sources. Are Quantaray, Tamron, and Sigma good brands?

In this catalog theres is a

Tamron 18-200 $399
Quantaray 18-125 $269
Sigma 18-200 $379

Tell me about IS lenses too? Is it worth it? Is there a big difference?

ANy advice appreciated!!!!

Tamron and Sigma both have decent lenses.
With Quantaray you really do not know what you are getting sometimes they Rebadge Tamron and Sigmas, sometimes they rebage other(as in not good) lenses.

Sigma makes a 18-125 that gets good reviews on this board, I took mine back(focus issues). Optically it would probably be the best choice, out of the options you posted.

The 18-200mm lenses have accebable optics, but would really be best for the Range.

Canon Makes a 28-135mm IS Lens that would blow the others away(optics) in the range that it covers.

If you want to save a little money, check out BUYDIG dotcom(free shipping and no tax on most items).

Sigma 18-125 is better than the 18-200. With the 200, past 135mm or so it has a very hard time focusing especially if there isn't much light and also the widest f/stop at 200 (probably starting around 150mm) is f/6.3. The 18-200 is a great range. It will work for you well if you use the long end (from about 135 - 200) outside or in bright light conditions. At Disney that would be the case.

A lot of others here have one of the Canon IS lenses, 28-135 I believe is the one. Doesn't give a great wide angle, but it is a quality lens and has IS.

i got my canon 28-135 IS for $419 ( J&R) and love it ....haven't taken it to wdw yet but it's been pretty all purpose for me in "real life" . i haven't tried the sigma's mentioned but the sigma i had rechipped was horrendous with my rebel( was ok with the film but not the digital), the focus was constantly hunting, enough so i'd think long and hard about another sigma :teeth: probably the others are ok though since some love them
