Hmmm . . . could you have a mild case of Roseacea? I do, and it's very common. My skin looks just like your description. If you do have it, you need a cream to treat that issue, not make-up to cover it up. You can see pictures or Roseacea online, but it might be worth a trip to the dermatologist. It's covered by insurance, and mine helped me a great deal -- and the products he has me using are in line pricewise with the good-quality drugstore stuff ($7.50 for a 14-oz bottle of moisturizer, $2.75 for a bar of special soap).
Another thing that helps me: A little bit of light colored self-tanner every 2-3 days. Not enough to really look "tan", but it evens out my skin tone.
Oh, and another vote for Garnier's BB cream. And a vote against Aveeno's tinted moisturizer, though I like their other products.
Just wanted to say, I have rosacea and have tried several creams and salves from the dermatologist and none work well for me. I am going to have to get light therapy, which is not cheap but should be more effective. And some of the warnings and reported side-effects of the Rx creams were kind of scary.
My skin has gotten so much worse recently with this pregnancy, and I am currently trying the BB cream from Garnier as a primer (with a mineral powder foundation) and am not really all that impressed. I have heard a few companies now make a CC cream - anyone try one of those?
