I am considering buying a Garmin, and I want something I can use for running as well as for geocaching. Do they have such a thing? Do they show you map coordinates of where you are? I can read a map and do land navigation, it's just pinpointing the exact location of the geocache is sometimes difficult to do with the old compass/map/terrain feature technique. Do the Garmins designed for running give you the right info that you could also use for geocaching? Any help is appreciated, I want to buy one, but I want to get the right one, I am hoping there is one that is useful for both. Thanks!!

tinkerbell -- i'm going to redirect this question to the Events subboard -- that is where the training chatter goes on and you'll get more feedback there I believe

I bought my husband a Garmin 305 to use hunting. It can work just like a regular GPS, so the answer is......YES!

I have a followup question on the Garmin topic- anyone know if they are going to release a new model soon? I bought a second generation nano at the beginning of the summer, and now they brought out the new ones with the videos! I don't really care about the videos, I just hate that my shiny, happy new iPod feels old now.:rotfl:

Lately I've become obsessed with getting a Garmin- I'm trying to hold out for my birthday in December...

That's very cool you can do that geocache thing that I don't really understand...;)

Lynn has a Garmin Forerunner 205 and likes it, I got it for her from a place called Megagps.com. They have very good prices. I think the difference between the 205 and the 305 is a heart rate monitor.

Have you looked at the Nike+Ipod for your old nano, like mine LOL, I use that and really like it. Looks like it will also work on the new nanos. I agree not much on the videos.

Hello,

Just FYI, If you register on the Powerbar site (the Garmin site has the info), you are eligible for a $50 rebate from Garmin; I believe the rebate runs through November 2007.

I bought my Garmin Forerunner 305 on the Wal-Mart website; they have a feature where if you allow them to ship it to your local Wal-Mart, shipping is free! They email you when it arrives.

Bottom line: my Garmin Forerunner 305 (with tax) was $240.31; just received my $50 rebate this week, so final cost for Forerunner 305 was $190.31.

Hope this helps :)

Wow thanks for the tip, and thanks to everyone for the help with this topic! Looks like my best choice would be the 305, especially with that rebate! Thanks again, WISHers always come through for me :)
