We're driving down on Spring Break, we've only driven with the kids one other trip and that was ages ago. I want to pack a "fun box" of activities so they'll have stuff to do besides their ipods. Looking for ideas...(ages 7 & 11)

So far I have the usual crayons, coloring books and playing cards. :)

Thanks!!

A DVD Played loaded with Simpsons,Futurama,Wayne's world,Austin Powers and Back to the future

Dvd player, scratch off hangman games, mad libs, DS or PSP or my kids hook up PlayStation in the car to the tv or port DVD player. I am the one usually doing the Fla to PA drive bymyself so we can stay longer and then DH flies to meet us for a week. I try to drive as much as poss while they sleep and as much as poss the first day. Last time we even brought the dog.

We have an educational toy store here that has great travel games. Rush hour is a compact logic game that my dd7 LOVES. You can get additional card packs so that the game is always changing. Mad libs and choose your own adventure books are really fun too. Melissa & Doug makes a great travel bingo and travel Hangman game too.

I have an Excel spreadsheet of all of the states so that you can keep track of all the license plates that you see on your way down. If you want, I can email it to you.

Activity type of books? DD is really into American Girls and I found a Kit Kittridge Activity book (has mini boards games, card games, etc.) in it, going to pick that up for her, also paper dolls.

I have also seen really nice traveling lap desks on amazon, going to pick that up as well.

Target has lots of fun travel games (Battleship, Hungry Hippos, etc)! We have a DVD player and bring all of our Disney movies to watch on the way(I also buy 1-2 new ones also)! Also I pack lots of snacks (stuff the kids don't usually get)!:rotfl:You can also get on-line Disney word searces and puzzels to print out and take!

I just picked up Mad Libs on the Road! for my kids for next February when we drive to the World. My DD (11) is a Mad Libs addict, so I know this will be fun for her. My DS (7) should like it, too. You can buy Mad Libs almost anywhere (bookstores, Target, A.C. Moore, etc.).

My kids play the "Picnic Game" on the way down. "I'm going on a picnic and I'm bringing ... Apples. I'm going on a picnic and I'm bringing ... Barbecue Sauce." They also play a Disney variation of the game. "I'm going to Disney World and I'm looking for ... Aladdin. I'm going to Disney World and I'm looking for ... Buzz Lightyear."

I used to make a folder with all kinds of print outs. My kids got so used to it they would bring their folders to me right before a trip and ask that I print out some new ones!

Their favorites were the license plate game, travel bingo( kind of like a search and find of different items you find on the road like a billboard, a train, cows, gas station, etc), and Disney coloring sheets .

We also always bring ipods, Nintendo ds, snacks, small travel pillows and small throw/lap blankets.

Also, I used to wrap up small gifts and give them out for good behavior etc.

We ditched the dvd player a few years ago as they kids stopped being interested in watching movies.

Klutz books are great for the car- tons of activities/puzzles and stuff to keep them busy.
My daughter (11 at the time) loved the Klutz pipe cleaner book- made animals and I packed extra pipe cleaners - that kept her busy for a while.

I always buy a new game for their dsi's if they have those.

check amazon too they had tons of travel games. Like battleship or connect 4.
