Need Fast Passes Mid-January?

My parents are going January 11 for 4 nights. Mom said she is not going to worry about booking fast passes ahead of time since this should be a lower attendance time. Is she right or should I coax her into booking them ahead?

I guess I don't get that. What's the harm in booking some hard to get FPs. If you miss them, you're no worse off than if you hadn't made any.

She is wrong. Even though it is low attendance relative to the rest of the year, there will still be long queues at many attractions. You can tell her this, or let her figure it out in the afternoon of her first day of the trip ;)

Lower attendance for some of the most visited parks in the world.....

It's still going to have a lot of people with popular rides having long waits. Unless someone HAS to wait and buy tickets in person at the park, there's no reason to not have tickets linked and book passes ahead of time

Lol - they are 70 and have not done the parks in a while :) I will have to advise her to save them some hassle! At least I have her convinced to do ADRs at the 180 mark :)

I was in WDW in Mid-January in 2014 and booked every FP+ the night before as our trip progressed. We didn't make up our minds what park we would visit until the night before, so booking ahead of time would not have helped us at all. We got every ride that we wanted at a time that worked for us. No worries. This might be a problem if traveling with a larger group.

At low times they don't usually run some rides at full capacity which creates longs lines.
I have never seen "long lines" during low capacity times of the year, and we do 2-3 trips during those times every year. I really wish that people would stop posting this type of misinformation.

Sure, they pull boats out of the water for IASW, but it is still a walk on.

I am not sure if you are being sarcastic here or something, but this is totally incorrect.

Take a look at the estimated wait times on the easywdw.com cheat sheets during low crowd (1-2 out of 10) days: http://www.easywdw.com/category/cheat-sheets/ Soarin, Test Track, Toy Story, Mine Train, Peter Pan, will all see waits of 60 minutes or more during the day. I call that a "long line."

Yes IASW (and many other non-headliners) will still be a walk-on for much of the day.

:)

We were at Magic Kingdom on a crowd level 2, recommended park day, and the posted wait at Peter Pan after lunch was 75 minutes. We had booked a FP (60 days in advance) and it was very useful!!! When we checked the night before, there were at least 10 attractions with zero FP+ availability for a party of 4, including Mine Train, Peter Pan, and even the Tinker Bell meet & greet.

This post may be informative to set expectations appropriately:

I never suggested that ALL rides were a walk on, just that rides that were not running at full capacity were walk-ons. I apologize for any confusion.
