Anyone live in or familiar with Dover, DE area? My daughter is planning a trip to the Air Force Base in Dover. Does anyone know of a nice hotel(s) to stay in? Thanks in advance for any help!!

If you can wait a bit... DH's best friend was stationed at Dover. I'll email him tonight, but he's a bit slow on the uptake, so it might take a while to get back to you.

Ok, I have no help for you, but seeing the post about Delaware, I had to laugh....
My kids have a new Disney cassette that we listen to in the car called "travel songs"
on it is a chicken song that says:
Chickens on an airplane, flying through the sky,
off to California in July
Chickens on vacation flying through the air,
from a farm in Delaware!!

This song has my kids in giggle fits everytime!!

Ok, sorry to interrupt... carry on! :)

We drive through Dover on the way to the beach. I think most any of the chains would be ok. The big NASCAR race track is in Dover too.

Being someone who visits Dover 2 times a year for NASCAR races, try to see what hotels are open for reservations for your stay. Try the Marriot on route 13 or even Dover Downs. The track has a slot machine casino on the premisis along with the hotel. Dover is not that big going North/South so look up the motels/hotels on route 13. They are all close to the Air Force Base. I hope you have a nice trip.

My parents are moving near there next year. The base is pretty close, and there are many chains of hotels around there as well.

The NASCAR thing out there is a big draw as well.

Thank you to everyone for your help. Most of the hotels are booked a year out, especially the chains. She still is looking. Any additional into would be welcomed. Thanks again!

Here is what Bryant said:

Dover DE huh. I'm guessing that they're military. If thats the case and they want to stay on base it wouldn't be a bad deal. Dover recently renovated their quarters so they're new and clean. The base is also real close to town (not that there is much in town to begin with) just a couple of miles North of the base and you're in the center of Dover. Up by the mall on Rt 13 there are the typical hotels. They can also stay at the Casino hotel if they'd like. If they want to stay closer to the base but not be on base, the closest one is Best Western on Lebenon Rd. They'd take the left fork to Rt113 when Rt13 splits in town and follow the signs toward base. They'll pass it on the way to the base. As for just which places are better to stay at - I never stayed in one of the hotels. Best bet call up Billeting at Dover and ask.
I know that the transient aircrews had 2 hotels they would not stay at - dirty/loud/ etc - but I don't remember which ones they were. They're are also a couple of bed and breakfast's available closer to City Hall and what not. To sum it up - call up Billeting and ask them or stay on base. 302-677-3000 is base information, they can connect you to billeting.

When my parents go to Dover (they are military) they get a break on the military quarters. Its a very low rate, but it is on the base.

I'm not sure of the details, but it can be done. They take thier camper with them sometimes.
