My dog is turning reddish/purple. It started as a few spots on his belly the other night, then last night we checked him again. It is covering most of his belly, legs, butt and a few spots above his eyes. I'm going to make a vet appt but does anyone know what this is and how serious is it?????

It's hard to know... without actually seeing a picture. Are these places losing their hair also? Is the dog scratching at it? Are there any sores or has the skin just mysteriously changed color? Sorry that I couldn't help more!

:wave2: princess:

Age? Breed? If this is accompanied by itching and hair loss, it could be anything from ringworm to allergies. A trip to the vet is definitely in order.

Definitely take your dog to the vet. If something doesn't seem right, I would have him there in a heart beat.

Our dog had some gunk in his ears this winter and we let it go for a few days because he seemed fine otherwise. It didn't clear up so we finally took him to the vet. Turns out he had a severe ear infection which could have been very dangerous if we had waited any longer. He was on a slew of medicines and ear drops until it finally cleared up. I learned my lesson and get him to the vet the first time something doesn't seem right.

Is it painful to touch? Is he itching it? Acting any differently? Losing hair?

It might just be rash or allergies or possibly a parasite, but definitely check with the vet for peace of mind :)

I took Comet to the vet this afternoon about the purple/reddish splotches on his body. Not good news.

He's hemorrhaging. They're running some tests, but it doesn't look good. I was checking out, planning to take him home when he started to bleed proufously from where they gave him a shot. They decided to keep him for the night. If he gets any type of cut at all during the night, he'll bleed to death.

Tomorrow should bring more answers.

I am so sorry to hear that. Best thoughts and hopes for tomorrow.

sending tons of prayers, pixie dust, and hugs for you and Comet.:(

Poor baby...... Lots of prayers and PD.....

Keeping you and your pupper in my thoughts. Hope he gets well and back home quickly.

Not what I wanted to read about your dog.... I hope the vet finds out whats wrong.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I wondered if he could be hemorrhaging, but it happens so seldom in dogs the allergies made more sense to me.

I'll keep you both in my best, most healing thoughts. Please let us know how you make out.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Hope that Comet is alright.

Thank you all for your good thoughts. We ended up bringing him home this evening. The bleeding from the shot finally stopped and they said he would be much better at home. He wouldn't stop shaking. We go back for the results tomorrow night. I'm supposed to call around 2pm to make sure they got all the results. The tests they're running are coagulation profile, immune profile and chemistry something or other.

Oh, here's pics of him. The second picture is one of him and his sister Princess. If something happens to Comet, I'm really going to worry about her. They've never been apart.
