We have one daughter, age 9, and we are going to Disney Dec. 16-23 as a total surpise. I was wondering if anyone out there has ever suprised their kids with a trip to Disney at Christmas? If so, how did you do it? Looking for ideas. Thx!
If you search on this board, you'll find a few threads. One awesome idea that I'm using myself is to create a photo puzzle revealing the surprise, making the kids (if their old enough) put it together to see what it says.
It might be too late, but maybe you can make an advant calendar for each day that says something nice and on the day before you go, it says You're headed to Disney! Just a thought...
My parents surprised me when I was 8 and I still remember every moment of when they told me. They had gotten my cousin (who worked as a CM as a part of the CP during th3 spring before) bring home a pair of ears and a donald duck stuffed animal and when I got home from that day at school right before Christmas, I went into my room and they had laid out a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and the donald was there. I picked up the donald and went out in the living room and my parents were sitting there, I asked "What's going on?" and all of a sudden my cousin popped in the back door and shouted "surprise" and plopped the ears on my head. I cried from excitement, it was amazing.
Get a pair of ears if you can
I still have mine and cherish them.
We did a surprise Christmas (beginning of Dec.) trip with our girls. We didn't tell them until we were almost in FL. We were driving so we woke them up early to get in the car and told them we were going to Grandma's. My older DD got suspicious when we had been driving longer than the 5 hours we should have been and she didn't recognize anything, but the younger one was clueless. Finally at our last rest stop before the FL border I told DH we had to tell them-- DD would have guessed when she saw the welcome to FL sign.
I had made gift bags up for them with their Mickey Ear Hats, a new disney t-shirt, their Disney wallets with spending money in them, some sunglasses and their autograph books and pens on the bottom. When we got back to the car I told them that as they noticed we weren't going to Grandma's but they would need the things in the bag where we were going.
Certainly you can do this for anytime you want to tell. A goody bag with the ears and shirts and other stuff they may need for the trip, all Disney themed and tell them you are going to be taking a trip, or have an early Christmas present for them, and they will have to bring these things!
We're surprising DD10 and DS6 with a trip this Christmas. We do the German pickle tradition, and this year the trip will be the pickle gift. When the kids get home from school to begin winter break, we'll tell them that they can find the pickles and open one gift. We're wrapping a helium-filled, Mickey-shaped balloon that will be anchored down by a Hallmark Pooh ornament. The balloon should float out of the box, and then they'll pick the ornament up and read its inscription "Surprises, indeed, are wonderful things." At the bottom of the box will be our itineraries and two new guidebooks. The car will be packed, and we'll head out as soon as the screaming has subsided.
This is our second surprise trip, and it's been much harder to keep quiet this time around!
I surprised dd with her first trip for christmas when she was five, I asked the pilot to announce that we have just landed a few minutes from WDW, and the flight attendant had a special delivery...a letter from Santa that explained that he was sending us to WDW for Christmas. We had letters each morning tell us what we were doing that day. She loved it!
