My biggest recommendation is only take the prescription pain pills when you absolutely have to. I had mine out when I was 20 (almost 10 years ago, *gasp*) and my biggest problem was the Vicodin ate a hole in my stomach. So, I needed to eat to make my stomach feel better, but I couldn't eat because my mouth hurt. It was horrible. My doctor told me to rinse with salt water, but it made me gag. My FIL (who is a Dentist) got Peroxyl (OTC antiseptic mouthwash) for me and I used that instead. Much, much more pleasant than salt water and it didn't burn at all.

. I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth surgically (in a hospital operating room) removed about 15 years ago. I had a great surgeon and I have to say it was THE easiest dental procedure I have ever had done (and that's saying alot since I've had braces twice and most of my teeth have been filled and refilled). I was only given 500 mg tablets of Motrin to take afterwards (how I was supposed to swallow those horse pills with cotton in my mouth I'll never know) and I only ended up taking them once when I got home. No other pain relievers, no ice, nothing. I didn't even bruise which the dr was expecting because I've very fair skinned. I was so hungry when I got home I ate potato chips! The next day I was eating normally with no pain. I have a major fear of dentists, and I keep asking mine if he can just put me completely out whenever he has to do a filling
