Need daycare ideas! Baby has chicken pox...

I hope he's feeling better soon. I'd probably take the unpaid leave too, but I only work part time, and it's not as big of a deal.

Can you make up the unpaid time sometime before the end of the pay period, when you have someone that can stay with him? Maybe if the relatives work during the day, you could make up at least a few hours in the evening and one of them could care for him after they got off work?

Actually, I think it's better not to get them at all. I had them when I was about 12, and felt extremely ill. I'm hoping the shot will protect my 4-year-old.

OP, one thing I would do: Check out craigslist.com for babysitters in your area. After your little one is well enough to be cared for by another, you could use a sitter. It's always good to have a few sitters in your back pocket for emergencies if you don't have family or friends available.

The shot is only guaranteed for 10 years. I am worried that kids won't keep up with the shot and get chicken pox as an adult, which I've heard is worse then a child getting them.

I took a weeks family leave after my daughters surgery.....I actually have an "open" family leave now for 12 months to be taken as I need it....just in case my daughter has to be home from school for a sickness I can take the time as needed from work...

Not to hijack the post but I hope your daughter is ok, what kind of surgery was it?

I remember when I was a child, getting chicken pox made you very popular, since everyone wanted to bring their kids around to make sure they got it young . . . Do people still do that?

Yes, my neighbors in my old neighborhood all did this when one child got infected.
