I, too, encourage you to call the mom. Not all people with allergies need to be concerned with cross contamination.

My DD is very allergic to dairy and eggs -- a drop of it on her skin (not even ingested) makes her breakout in hives.

That being said - we have never had any cross-contamination issues and we take no precautions other than obvious ones (i.e. I don't use a knife just used for butter to spread her jam, but I just rinse it under the sink before I use it; no need for dishwasher or bleach).

Also, my daughter can eat baked goods with dairy and egg in them -- our allergist said that cooking items at 350% for 15 minutes breaks down the proteins sufficiently to allow many kids, like my daughter, to tolerate the them. (I still wouldn't give my daughter a casserole or something like that with a large concentration of dairy or egg, because she would react, but otherwise she has never had any problems.)

So we just use regular cake mix and make special "buttercream" frosting for her. My favorite recipe (after many tries) is using a traditional butter cream frosting mix, except for substituting butter-flavored crisco for the butter. I also had a pinch of salt to help cut and residual crisco flavor and it is absolutely delicious!
