Well we finally managed to get our Christmas tree and into the stand, into the family room and ready to decorate (before its too late :sad1:

Last night I checked out the lights before putting on tree only to find that all 3 bunches are broken with no lights to put on tree.

We stopped by KMart and Walmart.....no lights.
We drove to Lowes home improvement but the closed minutes before we got there (closes at 9 pm week before Christmas....ugggghhh)
Home Depot also closed.

We check 24hr Walgreens....awesome store and has great seaonal sections, etc. They had a ton of outdoor lights and decore but nothing for indoor use of a tree. Sady we all came home disappointed with no lights.

So we NEED to get to the store and purchase sonn and get this tree ready.

ANY suggestions for brands, style, sales, best place to purchase, etc.
Thanks.

I just got ours at our grocery store -- Jewel. Ace Hardware also had some left.

Good luck.

We were at BJs today and they had a few. Not to many but a few to get a small tree decorated.

Search less traditional places like your grocery store if they have a seasonal aisle. Most big box type stores are sold out. Target already has hem on 30% off but have very little stock.

Good luck!

I was at Target on Monday and they had all of their lights 30% off. Hope this helps. :santa:

I think stores got in a lot less lights this year and/or they never restocked. Last year we bought a ton of lights at Target after Christmas so this past weekend we went to all the Target stores to scope them out to see what we might be able to get after Christmas and not one of them had any lights. We also hit Lowes, Home Depot, and several other stores and again no lights to be found anywhere. Very odd!

Head to Lowes Home Improvement.

We are colored light people.
What is the difference between regular mini string lights, "faceted" lights and now "dome" string lights????

I keep spare boxes of lights in the basement for this exact situation. Another is when a string goes out. I just go into the basement and put on another string.

Why are they broken? Is a bulb loose or missing? A fuse blown? It might be an easy fix. Of course, we're "those people" with the crazy Christmas light house, so I spent hours checking, testing, and repairing hundreds of strands of lights, so "broken" is kind of relative around here! Plug in the lights and then start checking each bulb to make sure they are secure in their sockets. 95% of the time a loose bulb is the problem.

We had several blown strings when we went to put up our tree last week. So did my sister. Maybe this was jsut a bad year for storing light? :confused3

I spent an afternoon looking for lights that Sunday. Target had nothing. Home Depot had nothing. CVS had short strings. I needed enough to cover a 9 ft. tree. I finally found some at Walmart but only after a helpful employee showed me where they had a supply in the garden center. But even those lights had been picked over. Some of the boxes were dented and pretty banged up. But at least the tree got decorated.

I noticed that the selections were even more limited when I was out today. Walgreens had only a few strings. Michael's was a mess! Even the grocery store had a very limited supply.

Good luck finding lights. It's not something that you would think you would need to search for at this time of year.

Not sure where you live but Kroger and Meijers had them today and lots of them:worship:

Good luck finding them! I needed some last week and couldn't find a set of white lights anywhere....lots of colors though. I jokingly referred to it as the "Great Light Famine of 2011". :rotfl::rotfl:

I usually put about 5 sets of lights on our tree. Only 2 sets would work and DH was super busy with work and couldn't fiddle with them. I figured I could just go buy more. Not so easy. After searching the greater Charlotte area for days, I finally gave up and decorated the tree with just the 2 sets.

I have already set the calendar on my iphone to remind me to buy lights in October 2012. :lmao:

I had the exact same thing happen Sunday, went to all the same stores as y'all have listed andno lights......found tons at Rite Aid. 2 boxes of 100 per string for $7.99-clear and multi.:thumbsup2

I just put up our tree a few days ago. I bought a 300 count string set at Home Depot for $10. Prices for even traditional bulbs are outrageous this year. I'm a huge after Christmas stocker upper. I have a million lights in FL, but I can't say I've ever spent more than $5 a box. Usually cheaper than that.

The 300 set was perfect though for a 6ft tree. There was plenty to go around and looks beautiful.

My biggest trouble was finding a live tree stand. I finally wound up at Sears, and spent $11 on one. They were the only store in town, and they don't even sell trees. The usual box stores didn't have a single one.

GOT LIGHTS!!!!

DD, DS and I went out yesterday. Lowes Home Impr said on line that the store had tons....we get to store and they are all out except for a few boxes of odd colors and outdoor sets. Our light sets basically just died out.....keep in mind they were almost 15 yrs old.

Thinking of anywhere else we thought we'd try Big Lots. On the way we passed our towns largest CVS. A quick turn into there and we found LIGHTS!!!

We got 2 pkgs of 300 colored lights (good brand) from less that $15 off (CVS sale). I debated getting a 3rd box and will prob check back after Christmas....to have a "just in case" set of lights.

Our tree is one of the smaller ones we have ever had and 600 lights it is amazing. Now to get it decorated with all the fun ornaments.
(DD9 fever, DD13 moody, tired hopefully not getting sick, DS16 tired from sleep over.....and I still have fever, stuffed nose, ears, and lost voice)
Hopefully we'll all be well by Sat afternoon and Sunday:goodvibes

BTW, when we did buy our tree there were many people asking for tree stands and the clerk at Lowes said that they have been out for a long time, only got a limited number in......so there is also a tree stand shortage. (thankfully we had one)

I have two tree stands in Florida... one I bought for myself, the other I bought for my mom when I got her a live tree as well. Doesn't do me any good now...

I just checked Target again tonight, to see what would be worth it for Monday morning. I swear it seems like they restocked their shelves of everything. The garland, the ornaments, the LED lights. They do have some very pretty glass ornaments that would go nicely with the tree decorations, I'll pick up a few of those boxes on monday for next year.

Did you guys try Sams? Mine had LED lights, already marked down yesterday! I got some. Seems like their Christmas stuff is already marked down and some of the toys too!
