Hi. We are coming to FW for the first time this Friday. Super excited for the experience. We have done resorts and off-site and think this might be the best of them all since we love to camp and love Disney.

My question is if we need to use our car at all. We have a daughter and her family that will be staying off site and needs our van. Can we get to all the parks, DTD, etc without using up alot of time waiting for transportation? I know this question is contingent on crowds, etc. but would love to hear from those that have used Disney transportation only while camping.

Another question. Anyone go from FW to Cape May on Disney transportation? Help on how to get there would be appreciated. We have a 7:50 am reservation and I don't really want to get up at the crack of dawn to get there...

Not sure on the Cape May question, haven't done that one. As far as everything else is concerned we used Disney transportation for all the parks and had little to no problems getting around. Some think you can drive to parks quicker, but when I am on vacation I don't feel like driving in crowds on roads I am not familiar with. I leave the driving to them and just enjoy the moment. You get the boat ride to MK which the kids love. Buses can get you everywhere else on Disney property. Hope ya have a blast.:thumbsup2

I hate to tell ya, but to make a reservation that early it would require getting up at the crack of Dawn......

You'll have to transfer to Beach Club Resort from the park. You can't get transportation directly from FW unless you get a cab.

But we had little problems with transportation when we visited. Most of the times our wait was 5-10 minutes or less. Well, that is, except the one time we were waiting for the Magic Kingdom bus....... ROFL

To get to Cape May that early I would look at the earliest opening park that day, take transportation to that park (bus or boat) then take the YC/BC bus from the park to the resort. Alternately you could call a cab and get there quicker.

While I have a car when at FW, I have never used it to get around disney. But have to go on grocery resupply runs which are usually required about midway through our trip.

Our trip in August was the first one where we had a car with us - and we found we didn't really use it all that much to get around Disney. DH and DS took it one day when they went golfing, and we drove the day we went to Typhoon Lagoon. Otherwise, we used Disney transportation. We found we rarely had to wait for the boat or the internal bus, but we did seem to have crappy luck most of the time waiting for the right bus to our park to show up at the Outpost.

For an early reservation like yours, I'd probably drive. If I didn't want to worry about having my car all day, I'd just zip back to the Fort after the meal and then take Disney transportation to where ever I was headed that day.

I agree completely! :thumbsup2

Getting to parks is OK. Going to other resorts is time consuming. 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I'd get a cab to Cape May.

I will say, we always drive down and tend to park the car and leave it at our site. However, this past trip we ran in the Wine and Dine half and then had a 10:30am breakfast reservation. It was nice to be able to wake up at 10:00am and still be on time for our reservation. That allowed us to sleep in after the party and not have to wake up at 8:30-9:00 to be able to make all of the connecting transportation. We are leisure Disney goers and typically we like to take our time and aren't in a huge rush, but the car made it super nice!

When we go to Cape May we take boat to Magic Kingdom then get the monorail to Epcot and then walk to Cape May... But if you don't want to do all the walking, you could take boat to Magic Kingdom then get the bus to Beach Club.
Time would be 1 1/2 to 2 hours...

Once our car is park at Disney the only way we would ever drive it is to go to the store for more food...

Take a cab to cape may...

We rarely move our truck once we are parked at FW, and Im a Type A personality.

Are you meeting the people for breakfast who will have your van? They can stop and pick you up at the Fort. The guard will let them park and you can meet them in the front lot.

Thanks for the help! We will not have to give up the van until Saturday evening. Sounds like our best bet for so early a reservation is to drive on over to Cape May.
I feel the same as many of you - once car is parked, I don't want to get back in.

maybe a moot point now, but if you get a parking permit for your van and your other party has a KTTW (or whatever is being used now) they can drive to your site to pick you up.

Good news! I called Disney today and was able to get an 8:50am reservation. The hour difference will be a big help. Does anyone know if the taping of the parade on Saturday causes more congestion with using transportation around MK? We may need to drive after all!
