My Canon Powershot S30 ended up with a cracked LCD screen on the first day of our trip to WDW. It still takes pictures, but obviously the screen needs to be replaced.

I can find NOWHERE that will just sell me the LCD screen- everyone has to send it to Canon for repair or nothing.

Come on, I've GOT to be able to order and fix this myself without having to pay Canon $65 just to look at it, and $150 (or more) to fix it.

Anyone have any suggestions for where I can get parts for this???? Anyone?

Is it new? Under warranty? Where did you get it?? Best Buy said if that happens while under warranty you get a new one. Not sure if I beleive it though! We do know someone that dropped and cracked their new Palm Pilot and BB did give a new one!

I bought it from Best Buy with the extended warranty and went to the store in Florida to see what they would do and they pointed to the phrase in the warranty that says "Does not cover intention or accidental physical damage to the camera". They refused to even consider sending it back for repair under their warranty.

Of course, it's still under the manufacturer's warranty also, but this isn't a 'defect' so not a warrantable repair. I could have sworn when I bought it they said it would cover LCD repairs, but that's just my word against their printed policy.

I know I was bummed for you when I saw it.

I'm NO expert but, have you tried the camera stores like Wolf (and another one that escapes me right now)?

sorry Jeff. :(

Try another Best Buy and see what they say! Our friend DID drop his Palm Pilot and got a new one. Maybe that was a mistake. Do try a specialized camera store as the next step.

Jeff, I am going in to my camera store today. Let me see what I can do.

Every store I've talked with says I need to send it in for repair, that I can't get the parts myself. I haven't tried to disassemble the back yet but it really can't be that difficult. If I can talk apart and put together computers, cars and other things, replacing an LCD screen can't be that difficult. Ugh

I will try the Best Buy here and see what they have to say. I've just got a sinking feeling in my tummy that says they are going to say tough luck also.

My camera guy said that unless it's like a battery cover, only an Authorized Canon dealer can get the parts, and that Canon has strict rules about servicing the cameras. In other words, I think you are SOL. Sorry buddy.

Jeff,

I can back up what Brisully said. I work for an AV retailer, and when we sold Canon products, our techs were not ALLOWED to work on their stuff. It all had to go back to Canon for repair. On a few occasions, our guys could fix it if we did not need parts, and it was out of warranty, but otherwise, like Brian said, you might be SOL. sorry.
