We will be flying down over spring break. I know I have heard many times that you can get the cabs from Orange County airport with that guaranteed rate of 35 one way from the airport to most of the hotels there on harbor. My question is what about going back. We have a flight leaving at 1 p.m. on Good Friday and so I figure we need to leave around 10:30 a.m. We have friends that we are meeting on our 2nd to last day there and we want to have a nice breakfast at Rainforest the day we leave and would like to not be "rushed". I was going to book the shuttle but having used it before I know they usually want you out there quite a bit early and I am afraid it would make me feel hurried and like I wouldn't be able to enjoy our meal with our friends.

I would much prefer taking a cab but I don't want to get murdered on the cost and was wondering if there was any way possible to get a cab BACK to OC airport without getting robbed on the fare. Is there any possible way to get a guaranteed fare if you are NOT staying at a Disney hotel?

We are staying at the Ramada Maingate and I would like to somehow get this worked out upfront and not try to rely on luck of the draw especially given the holiday weekend that it is.

HELP! :) :confused3 :headache: :worship:

When we stayed at the Candy Cane we had the front desk call for a cab and ask how much it would be. We then checked with the driver when he arrived to make sure he was honoring the price we were quoted. It was a few years ago but I'm pretty sure it only cost a few dollars more than the trip to the hotel.

We just went through this. We had heard that you could get a flat rate of $40 from the airport, but we did not find that to be the case. We got a metered rate both ways. It was easy, as cabs were plentiful, but I don't know how you get the set fare because we couldn't find it. The cost came out to be the same, though, but had traffic been an issue it would have cost more.

We stayed at GCH and didn't have to call a cab--the bell guy just waved one over. They told us there are always cabs there, but I don't know about other hotels.

oh, thanks for posting that, DizMe. i was wondering. so is there a wait for cabs at the airport? we are deciding between cab and car service. we will probably need a cab-van because there are five of us.

our trip is not until april, though. i'm just really excited. :)

There were plenty of cabs at the airport, but we did have to wait about 5 minutes for the cab van. There are 5 of us as well. On prior trips I've seen plenty of cab vans but for some reason they weren't as plentiful this time. Still, it was faster and cheaper (with 5) than the shuttle and you don't have to leave for the airport as early as you do when you use Super Shuttle.

great. thanks. i think that's what we will do. we are staying at the grand californian, too. now if only it would be time to go now!

We easily caught a cab out from the GCH.. they were just lined up outside. I think it was about $40 (same on the way in as well...).

Kim :)

Oh yeah, I totally know what you mean!! Have a wonderful time!! I actually find the whole build-up/anticipation a big part of the fun. Even though it seems like the trip is sooooo far away, suddenly it's time to go!

See they are SUPPOSED to have a deal with the airports where they have to charge a flat fee. In fact when we went in July my mom went and asked a cab driver about it and he said he would do it but that was my question. How do you guarantee this. I know when I stayed at the DLH in 04 they had a certificate that we got from the concierge and we gave it to the cab driver and he could NOT charge us more than the 35.00. But I think you HAVE to be staying at one of the Disney properties to get this.

That is what I am afraid of. I would HATE to have to get overcharged going by the meter! One night we tried to get on the ART and it was packed and we were really tired and all we were trying to do was go to the Hyatt or Hilton or whatever that hotel is right over by the Convention center and the cab charged us 7.00 just to basically go a block. It was ridiculous. I have used the Disneyland Express before but I hate having to wait and they usually make you get there WAY early on the return. I would prefer to have the convenience of a cab but don't want to get robbed on the fare.

I guess I will call our hotel and see what they recommend.

If anyone else knows any ideas I would love to hear them.

AHHHHHH what a dilemma We have a relative to pick us up from the airport but I am debating between a shuttle or cab back to lb airport. I am starting to think the shuttle is the way to go. At least Ill know what to pay.

I haven't had experience with cabs to/from the airports there, but I googled around before my recent trip.

http://www.anaheim-yellowcab.com/AirportService.html

That page shows the flat rates, and says it must be requested at time of "order". I don't really know that that means...

But on my trip, I snagged a cab outside the Anaheim Amtrak station, and he told me the approximate cost to DLH. I was surprised, and he immediately lowered it to a flat rate about $3 less than the meter rate. He even ran the meter to show me.

They have their rates listed in the cabs, and while I don't remember the Anaheim cab's "standing" rate (what they charge each minute sitting in traffic), I remember it's an automatic 2.95, then 65 cents for every 1/4 mile (it ads up!). I'm would think that it's probably not that different in LA (it was pretty similar to the San Diego rates), so that gives an approximation...

Great thanks for that info. I will have to try it and see if it works! :)
