OK, here's the situation...

I'm in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex and want to take a 3 yo and 7 yo for a long weekend trip during their Spring Break. Every longer distance flight I've checked has been $265 and up (Jacksonville to go to St. Augustine, MCO, etc) and I don't want to spend that much on flights alone.

I'm talking leaving Fri afternoon and coming back maybe Weds night so 5 days. I can drive if it's not TOO far since it's a short trip. I need somewhere that would be fun and entertaining for them, not a ton of down time.

I thought about San Antonio, but am scared of the Spring Break crowds down there that week. (March 10-19)

Nothing like waiting to the last minute to plan, but this just came up. I'm going to stop by AAA on the way home and see what suggestions they have but thought I'd check the wealth of info here. Thanks!!

My son is almost 9 and last weekend my mother took him to a hotel about 3 miles from our home, it has an indoor pool. They went to see Chicken Little (second run theater... 2.50 each) and they went out to dinner and then on a shopping spree at the local dollar store. He said it was the "best vacation ever" and here I've been taking him to WDW. :lmao:

Something that simple could make their vacation unforgettable!

I was going to say about the same thing as the previous poster. Why not get a hotel downtown and have a local vacation? Try out all the fun touristy things that you don't normally do. This can be a very economical and memorable vacation!

we do the "hometown vacation" all the time and have great time. We will priceline a 4 star hotel in downtown and do all the tourist things like the zoo and imax. The kids love hotel pools and room service and they feel like they have been someplace without breaking the bank.

That's a great idea!! I'll look into that tonight...we could do zoo, movies, etc . I went by AAA and waited 45 mins but nobody was avail to help so I left.

I was also thinking about camping, but I don't know if they'd be bored.

Thanks!!

There are a lot of great little places in OK (not too far from Dallas) that would make wonderful long weekend trips. Google the OK state tourism board. There are falls/lakes, Native American reservations, places to go see Dinosaur fossils, etc.
