I am a full sized chest size (46 I). I am in need of some new bras and would like to know where to find some. In the past I've bought them online or from catalogs (lane bryant, woman within, romans, etc) I would like to get some with great support (these puppies are heavy LOL) no underwire (I don't like them poking my sides) and ones that don't wear out so damn quickly. Usually after just a few washes they seem to disinegrate.

Any brands? Any stores? Any suggestions?

First off are you SURE that is your size? I found out after years of wearing one size that actually I was a smaller band size and a larger cup size.
Get a fitting- My favorite bra is Fantasie- they are underwire but DO NOT poke you if they are the proper size. (they only go up to 44 though I think)

The only place I can find bras I like is at Nordstrom. I had a fitting there a couple of years ago and the clerk was very good, not like the ones I had received at other stores.

There is one Wacoal bra that is underwire that I really like. Another is Goddess. The bra that I liked the look and fit best was Chantelle but it was underwire and the wire poked through after a few wearings. Might have been a fluke but I haven't bought it since.

I agree with getting a fitting. I am in the same boat

The best bra that I have had in a long time is a Goddess brand. They have most models without an underwire. And they really last. I get mine at Catherine's, but they are available online. On occasion they have great sales.

Good luck
Debbie

I get my Goddess bras online (they're underwire, but they're very comfortable) at laurensilva.com.

Bare Necessities online is great.

Find a high-end bra shop though and get a fitting. They can help you with stuff you'd never think of - cup shape, side support, etc

I actually wear JMS (Just My Size) - I've found that they give great support - they have different designs to help with areas you want to address - such as a minimizer, extra side support, extra wide shoulder straps. They usually run $15-$18 or so - but I saw in the KMart sale paper that they are on sale for $10 this week. For $10 you might try one and find the proper style to work for you!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies. I have been fitted and the size they gave me was 46H. But the bras that I have bought fit around the band but the cup was still a bit small (I was still poppin out in the front) So I decided to get the 46I. And the ones I get are always wearing out so fast (and since the bras run about $30 piece) I would like to find something that will last a bit longer. It seems to be fine for a month or so, and then it looses any kind of support.

I love the Just My Size bras. Specifically style number 2446JM. It is the only kind I wear anymore. It has cushion straps and wirefree support. I usually order my online on the Just My Size website. They occasionally send me emails with good deals.

But it only goes up to DD I believe- or am I missing the larger cup sizes?

playtex
style 4365 or it may be 4395
good support, wide straps, no underwire, decent price

I wanted to make sure you're aware that Lane Bryant catalog is unrelated to the Lane Bryant stores and website.

Anyone have any advise on how to find a good bra shop to get a proper fitting?

I get mine from Lady Grace.
They have a great selection. Not sure about your size, but they do specialize in larger sizes. Check out their website.:)

Glamourise Magic Lift at JC Penny's. No underwire. Some are front hook.:thumbsup2
I have one clerk I work with and will call a couple weeks ahead to let her know "HELP!" That way she can go ahead and order several in for me and will set up an appointment.:thumbsup2 Most stores only stock up to a DD-:sad1:

I agree on the fitting part. I went down a band size from a 36 to a 34 and up two cup sizes. According to the sales clerk-a poorly fitted bra can cause damage to the mamary gland and may have been part of my shoulder/back pain. (That and wearing a eee at the time:rolleyes: HMMM. 2 bowling balls hanging off of my front can cause my back to hurt? Really?:) Who would have thunk it?)

I've seriously been considering a reduction. I'd love to be a C cup but would be content with a D or DD. Just still too chicken. Do you have trouble finding blouses/dresses that do not "over emphasize" that area?

BareNecessities.com Great bras including underwire bras that are awesome when ordered in the right size...

Here's my favorite one right now:

I had a reduction about 5 years ago - I would be happy to answer any questions if you want to PM me! It was HANDS DOWN - the best thing that I have ever done!

Mine last me about 2-3months. Wash them by hand in Wool-lite and lay them flat to dry on a sweater rack...just like the sales clerk told me. Still doesn't help.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the amount of weight on the elastic? Let's face it we are carrying some poundage and if the manufacturers are using the same elastic on our bras as on the smaller sizes....we may be getting taken advantage of...thats it-I want bungee cord straps!

I'm wearing a 34 G. Like others my band size went down and cup size went up after a proper fitting. I get mine at Nordstroms. The great thing about them is they will take back the bras at anytime if the underwire starts poking through or the bras fall apart before their time. Mine cost about $75 each but I handwash them and they last about a year or more. They are Chantelle bras. Always start on the outer hook and move in over time as the bra loosens, that helps them last longer too.

There is a great lingerie shop locally too. They stock all the big sizes in bras and have an amazing selection of great bras in affordable prices (and some in not so affordable prices0. The owner is a great fitter (worked at Nordstroms for years before opening her own shop). So maybe check for local lingerie shops.
