We just bought a new home that has no window treatments. I want to buy 1" wood look blinds for all of the windows and I plan to worry about curtains later. Since I need so many I want to use a company that will measure all of the windows and install them. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced company that provides well made custom blinds?

I have a Costco executive membership so I'm considering Costco's vendor Graber. Does anyone have any experience with them?

We got ours from Home Depot. It was a number of years ago, and they're still holding up great.

I’m just going to say-Lowe’s has a great sale over black-Friday, for levolor blinds. (50% off most styles). Really-measuring and installing isn’t all that bad :)

To answer your question about Costco, I do not have experience.

no experience with costco's but i'll say that it's WELL worth any minor charge for whomever you get them from to have them do the measuring if it includes a fit guarantee. i had custom blinds done for my former home and opted to pay for this-good thing i did b/c that's how we found out that the finishing (interior) on a couple of windows had just a hair of a difference in width between the top of the window and the bottom-maybe only 1/8th of an inch or so-not visible to the eye UNTIL they went to install and the blinds were too wide at one end. they ended up eating the cost at a few hundred dollars per blind.

not sure how the companies that work with costco have their contracts set up-if you are contracting with them or costco but i would research it beforehand b/c i've known of/read WAY too many horror stories about lowes and home depot wherein if there's a problem they say you have to deal with the subcontractor who turns around and says their contract is with the store and it goes round and round and round....

Thanks for the advice. We've installed blinds ourselves before but this time there are way too many windows for us to tackle it ourselves especially since I need to pack, schedule movers, turn on utilities, etc. plus all of the regular everyday stuff.

Lowe's or Home Depot are great choices and they also do installation. Don't shop at Costco, so can't comment there. Typically, you want them installed before moving in so you don't have to hang sheets or something tacky from the windows when you first move in. You can generally arrange with your builder to allow whomever you choose to do the measuring/installation while the house is nearly completion, even before you move in.

If they have a franchise in your area I recommend Budget Blinds. Used them for accordian shades and other window treatments for our current home and the one before. My parents also used them along with best friend & her Mom and my Aunt.

We did our own, Home Depot and Lowe's will cut to fit what the have in stock, as well you can order. We did both... It saved us a ton of money.

I did get a couple of estimates, that I need to sit down to look at. Sticker Shock...:scared1:

My husband is slammed at work and doesn't have time to help me pack much less install blinds in an entire house. We really need for someone to do it all for us.

Canadian here who has recently ordered from Budget Blinds too, wasn’t sure if they had franchises all over or not, so glad someone else mentioned them! We are waiting for ours to come in still but the reps have been great and the price was so much better than I expected. They install for a small price too. Can’t wait to have them come in!

Home Depot and Lowes are usually fine for things like this, I imagine Costco has a similar setup. Although, I would steer you away from ever getting your actual windows replaced from companies like this, blinds should be fine. Mine were....my windows on the other hand...no.

You might want to see if you have a local paint shop that does it. When I was a property manager I bought the precut Levelor blinds at Lowes and they were just awful and one of the employees would have to measure and spend hours installing. I ended up having the paint shop guy come over, he measured, gave me a quote for installation of their basic Hunter Douglas blind (which was far superior in quality to the Levelor Pre-cut) and it was only about 10% more than I had been paying at Lowes installation and all.

JCPenney here. Especially when you catch one of their sales. We used to use a local firm, and they are very good, but they are more expensive.

If you use someplace like Lowe's or Home Depot, they will guarantee the correct fit if you let them do the measuring. Any errors are their problem to resolve.

As mentioned above, you will be plenty busy moving in/unpacking, getting settled, etc. so this can be one thing to get done ahead of time since it is new construction.

This does not answer your question but I would consider wooden plantation shutters instead of wooden blinds. I have a lot of windows in my house and put the shutters in the front windows and wooden blinds in the rest of the house. I am so tired of twisting the blinds to open and close. The shutters work with a simple touch. The blinds are also harder to clean. I would like to replace the blinds with either shutters or the remote controlled blinds but I can’t talk my husband into spending the money. It is easier to spend the money on the front end.

I used Costco for pleated shades. They often give a Costco cash card rebate with an order. They use local contractors, ours did a good job. The shades are good quality but they were not cheap.

We bought levolor blinds from Lowes. TBH we had a brand new house and we only put blinds in key areas. They've held up well in the 4 years we've had them.

We had 5 bedrooms (one is downstairs and is the office at this point) but we don't have any kids so that helped. We put blinds in the master bedroom (2 windows) and closet (1 window), we put blinds in the great room (4 tall windows) and that was it.

We used curtains for the front bedroom, dining room and bedroom downstairs that is the office. We used a curtain also for the window that is in the staircase going upstairs.

We'll add in the rest of the blinds at a later date.

But to answer your original question I don't have specific experience with Costco blinds.

I personally prefer curtains but since this isn’t probably a long-term home my realtor recommended blinds. All of the rooms will be used and the home gets a lot of light which can be glaring in Texas. It’s a brand new spec home which is why there are no window coverings.
