We're leaving in 10 days, and my wife's 40th birthday will be one of the days we are there (we'll be at the Magic Kingdom that day). I've had some scattered ideas about what to get her, but nothing is coming together and I'm starting to panic. And I don't have much time to prepare things since I'm busy at work trying to finish up things before vacation. We'll be going with our two kids, 9 and 2, and my wife's sister, her husband and their daughter. We're already eating dinner at the Crystal Palace that night, and they'll have a cake for her there, but I wanted to do something a little extra special and memorable.

Some of my scattered ideas:

-I was originally thinking of doing some type of scavenger hunt, themed on Cinderella, and have clues for her to find with the kids help (though I'm not really sure how I'd do this, I'd just have to drop the clues when she wasn't looking or something). And have a present for her at the end. (A piece of jewelry maybe, or a spa gift certificate, I haven't decided)

-I tried the Wishes Fireworks Cruise a few years ago on her birthday, but it got cancelled because of lightning, and I wasn't really thinking of trying that again, and it's probably too late at this point anyway, but I'd be open to ideas if there is some other special event type thing that I'm not aware of.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, or things they've seen done, that I could possibly pull off to make the day special for my wife, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi! Here's a few ideas. What about a family photo shoot, a tour guide for the day. You could rent a pontoon boat. Do a dinner show, Spirit of Aloha or Hoop Dee Do. They have Cirque du Soleil there now. Maybe your SIL could watch the kids for you one night and you could take her to a nice dinner then a trip around the world(Epcot) or you guys could get a sitter and have both couples go. I saw on this web page a bunch of stuff. They have where you could have a lesson with a WDW florist. What does she enjoy doing?

Well, I did BBB on my bday just a couple weeks ago and I loved it!!! Would she like that?

With a two year old I'd keep it simple. Maybe stop into the Christmas Tree shop in Liberty Square and buy her an ornament to commemorate the occasion? A Tinkerbelle tshirt and tiara from Tink's Treasures? A nice frame to put a photopass photo in, or the sil

Along the lines of the scavenger hunt, you could try to book the Family Magic Tour. They are very accommodating to strollers. It's a blast for everyone involved.

Check out giftsofalifetime.com. It might cost you something, but may be worth every penny to take the organization out of your hands and put it in the hands of an experienced professional.

Good luck!

Another vote for gifts of a lifetime. www.giftsofalifetime.com

I used them twice for birthday scavenger hunts. We did a Villain Scavenger Hunt for dh's 40th and a Star Wars scavenger hunt for ds' 10th. Both took place in Hollywood Studios and we had a blast!! Dd (who is 8) can't wait for her 10th birthday scavenger hunt!

They can do anything you want - it doesn't have to be a scavenger hunt.

Good luck and happy 40th to your wife! (spent my 40th at Disney too!)

Thank you OP - I just decided to plan another event with Gifts of a Lifetime! I never would have thought of it had you not posted your dliemma!

Another fun thing, depending on your budget, would be to take your wife shopping for some nice jewelry at the GF. THe ladies shop downstairs has some very nice things from $100 to $1500, depending on what you want.

I'd be careful about taking her shopping on her bday.....it may look like you didn't really plan anything ahead of time, which can be a big no-no for some wives. Even if it's small, or is a note telling her about your plans, try to have it ready for her with a card that morning.

A couple of years ago my dh gave me a certificate for the new Segway tour (we were headed to WDW a little later in the year). It was fun to look forward to something without the kids.

Have you thought about taking her to LeCirque for her bday?

I'd also look into the Disney Florist gift baskets, since it can be delivered right to your room.

How about a tandem parasail ride over Bay Lake?

Good luck!!!

A crystal slipper engraved with a romantic message from you.

Check out Disney Florist. They have a lot of neat things.

Thanks everyone for all the great ideas. I'm definitely going to look into a lot of those and decide on something. I like the ideas of keeping it simple, but definitely having something on hand. I know she'll enjoy the day, just being with her family at the Magic Kingdom, but hopefully I can make it just a little more special. Thanks again all for taking the time to post, and if anyone still has any other ideas, I'll still check this over the next week before we go.

we went with my parents and our twin girls. my parents were celebrating their anniversary and my girls their bday. we called up coral reef in epcot and they set it up where a diver would come down in the tank with a sight that read happy anniversary and hapy birthday. it was free of charge the only catch is there has to be divers in the tank at the time of your reservation. the divers are guests who paid to scuba that day and their practicing in that tank so they are in their and just nice enough to hold the sign for you. give it a try. my parents cried and my girls were speechless!

My favorite gift from my DH recently has been the Swavorski Crystal Pooh. He has also given me Tigger for Christmas. It started because my sister gave me Eeyore for planning the family cruise last summer. They are really treasures to me and beautiful too! Good Luck and Hav a great trip!

In the gift shop right next to where you enter for Cinderella's Royal Table is a GREAT shop with lots of unique items - name escapes me. If you are in the area you could "leave for the bathroom" and then sneak in. I got my wife a nice Tinker Bell necklace that she really enjoyed.

I would imagine you are too close to your date to use Gifts of a Lifetime as they need some time to prepare something but you never know.

Monday the 21st the park is open til 3am if you are staying on property! Yikes that's late!

If at all possible IMHO I would try and switch your Dinner Res to Cindarella's Royal Table (Probably tried I am sure) As that is much nicer and they will decorate your table.

OR if you are out of the park before Wishes, take a boat over to the Poly, get a bottle of wine and watch the fireworks from Inspiration Point. Done that a few times and it is really nice. In fact we will be there on the 4th of July watching the fireworks from that spot.

You mentioned the personal watercraft. Defiantley worth doing! Just don't make the mistake I once made where I went to Ft Wilderness instead of the Wilderness Lodge by mistake and by the time we could get there, we were way too late! :scared1:

You know your wife best. What hints has she dropped? Would she want to have adult time alone with you at WDW or would she feel bad if you two were off together on what she had hoped to be 'a family vacation'.

Does she like going to the spa? If it's in your budget maybe you send her to the spa for 1/2 day and you take the kiddo to the park and meet up around lunch time.

Make sure your reservation is noted that it's DW's 40th B-day so she gets her pin upon check in.

Does she talk about going to (fill in a foreign country)? If it's one that is at EPCOT make sure you take her there first and allow her to spend time there and talk to the CMs -- who can wish her a Happy Birthday in the native language.

If you want to get her a piece of jewelry, take it with you and give it to her at a special time. If you want to wander through the jewelry store and allow her to 'oooh' and 'ahhh' over things and point to things she's dreaming of you can either surprise her and get it or make note of it and go back to get it. If you need to enlist the help of a CM, just go to guest services and explain what you want to do and I'm sure they'll help you make it a magical moment.

Again, you know her best. Make sure the kids make her a birthday card before you go. Send her off to get her soda, sneak back into the room and put the cards out with a small gift, run out and wait on a bench for her and then go back to the room letting her go in first.

Whatever you do, she will appreciate that you took the time to do it!

Enjoy!

How about the pick a pearl at Japan in Epcot or DTD? It is fun and the DTD location has lots of settings for the pearl. You can even get the pearl in Japan and then take it to DTD to have it set if they don't have a setting she likes.

You are a sweet husband to put so much thought into her bday! Your wife will love whatever you and your family do for her special day! You will be at MK... what's not to love:)

I like the idea of the family photo shoot. If it were me, I'd be thrilled. It's a gift that would be treasured. :)
