hi all

have always got GREAT advice on these forums - and need some more:) we're going to disneyland on july 18 as a combo birthday party /6oth celebration - my baby is going to be 18 (tear; and want to celebrate it somehow but we're staying at the paradise pier and disney celebration packages are expensive - any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

thanks!!

Maybe you could order a cake through Disney and have it delivered to a fun or fancy ish restaurant like the Blue Bayou, Carthay Circle, Café Orleans, or Naps Rose. I have never done it personally but others 9n Disboards have mentioned it as a possibility for birthday celebrations.

If your birthday person is wearing a Happy Birthday button, they will get a lot of birthday greetings from CM's around the park. We did not receive any other magic, so it is definitely best to plan your own.

Maybe surprise them with a guided tour, if they're into Disney history. There is also a newer one in California Adventure that sounds fun, and I believe both tours have front of the line access to a few popular attractions.

Maybe just let the birthday person feel like royalty as you collect fast passes for their chosen rides, let them choose what to do next, fetch lunch from wherever they want, and present them with gifts throughout the day!

Have fun planning!

I had a cake delivered to Storytellers for my birthday last year. It was really fun and by far the most beautiful birthday cake I'd ever had. Mine was one of the "small" ones (I think its supposed to feed 6 but it was more like 10) and it was decorated w/ a big Cinderella on top. You do have to order a few days in advance - mine was gluten free so I ordered a week ahead just to be safe.

The b-day button is fun - lots of CM's and guests were constantly wishing me a happy birthday :-).

We are taking my son for his 5th birthday this fall, so I am going to follow this thread:)

My favorite things to do for birthdays:

1. Call the front desk the day before arrival and have "Magic" waiting - they'll give you a signed character photo and button at check in.

2. Call room service the day before and have a plate of Mickey rice krispies and cookies and milk delivered to the room with a personalized note.

3. I bring decorations in a separate bag in my suitcase and my husband distracts everyone downstairs after we've gotten our keys to the room and I go up and decorate. I usually just hang streamers and a pre-made sign and items they'll use at Disneyland like autograph books, glow sticks, Disney gift card, coloring books and crayons, etc. For older kids you could get a Disney tee shirt or sweatshirt ahead of time and have it laid out on the bed.

4. We have had the cake delivery at Carthay Circle and it was GREAT. We also asked for the private room ahead of time. There's a minimum charge to officially rent it but if it's open the day you are arriving they might grant you some pixie dust and let you eat in one of the rooms.

5. I had the front desk deliver a signed picture to our room the morning of my DD's birthday. They slipped it under the door and when she woke up it was there and she was THRILLED.

6. We asked the waiter at the GCH pool to bring my DD a birthday drink that was named for her...she felt so special!

7. Find the Mad Hatter and tell him it's your birthday and he'll break into song.

Haha, the Mad Hatter told our birthday girl to come back tomorrow and he'd sing her an UN birthday song! I love love love the room service delivery idea! Maybe you could also order them breakfast in bed on your first morning! And doing your own decorating is such a good idea!

Decorating the room is such a great idea! I wouldn't have thought of that!!! I think we are going to take our son to Goofy's Kitchen for dinner the night of his birthday.

So the key to decorating your own room is having everything in a separate bag and ready to go. I just get items from our Dollar Store and buy a Happy Birthday Sign and it really makes the room special.

You can't get balloon delivery anymore because we are in a helium shortage in California (as if the drought wasn't enough) but I've brought a balloon pump and pumped up about 15 balloons in 5 minutes and taped them to the streamers before :lovestruc

My daughter celebrated her 5th birthday in the park this past week. We bought 60th celebration cupcakes (which are BEAUTIFUL and delicious) for everybody at Fiddler, Fifer, and Practical and sang her happy birthday. We booked her an appointment at the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique in the morning, which she LOVED. We also took all of our kids to see "Inside Out" at the AMC in DTD, which was a super fun birthday treat outside of the park. I know that's not applicable for your son's 18th birthday, but I'm just saying, we found ways to make the trip special and to celebrate her birthday without buying the expensive celebration package.

Definitely stop by City Hall and get him a birthday button. Consider making reservations at a restaurant you normally wouldn't eat at (such as Blue Bayou). The 60th diamond cupcakes are beautiful and make for a great birthday treat.

@JessieD - You can buy Disney decorations at Party City and decorate the room while he sleeps. They have all kinds of Disney character party decorations to choose from. Waking up to that would be amazing! Also, if he's into Star Wars, DEFINITELY take him to the Jedi Training Academy. Get there about 30-40 minutes early, sit in the very front of the group (wearing Star Wars attire helps), and when they ask for volunteers, have him be as energetic as possible to be chosen. That would be an amazing birthday memory. A character meal could also be neat. We took our son to Surf's Up with Mickey, and he was THRILLED. It was such a lovely, laid-back experience, the food was wonderful, the characters are so interactive and silly, and we had a great time.

Other birthday or celebration ideas:

-The Build a Bear in DTD is fun for little ones. We had never been before, so we took our 3 year old (each kid got something special one on one with me and DH- DD got BBB, older DS got the breakfast with Mickey, and youngest DS got Build a Bear). He loved it. It was so cute.

-Bibbity Bobbity Boutique (boys can be made into knights, girls into princesses)

-Special character meet (we took DD to meet Anna and Elsa, which requires a FP)

-Character meal

-Meal at House of Blues

-Meal at Blue Bayou

-Call from Mickey (if staying on grounds)

-Decorating room

-A birthday hat or class of 2015 hat (sold at Mad Hatters)

-Movie in DTD

-Brunch in DTD
