Well DS has expressesd a desire for Bey Blades for Christmas
and I know zip-zilch-nada. I've accessed some web sites and
see that some are "collectible" but doubt that they are worth
$40-50. These are spinning tops, right? Can anyone shed
light on these toys, tell me what I need minimum and what
would be good accessories so he can immediately begin playing
with his friends on a comfortable level? I can't ask him too much
as this will be a Santa gift and this is probably the last Santa
year so I don't want to cause suspicion. Thanks!!!!
The DIS is always the place for information!:sunny:

I JUST purchased a few yesterday for my DS. If you're interested, Toy's R Us is having a sale - buy two of the Starters (the top thingies) at 6.99 each, get a medium stadium (6.99 value) free with the coupon in their holiday book.

I only bought the two starters and the stadium (looks almost like a very small plastic kiddie pool, which is where you drop the "tops"). They also have some electronic starter for $25 or so; there are deluxe Bey Blades for $8.99...my head started to spin, since I knew zip, zilch, nada - thankfully I had friends with me that told me to just start with the starter ones, and if he shows that much of an interest in them, use any gift cards he may get from relatives to get more of them.

Those became the big craze around here last spring. Weve been lucky enough to get away with just getting a Stadium and a couple Bey Blades. I cant remember exactly how much, but I know they arent really that expensive. $40-50 sounds waaaay too much. Im thinking more around $15.00
You can get them at Toyrs R Us. Good luck!

My two ds have had these since last christmas. I have got the regular bey blades which run about 6-7.00 at walmart. and they have electronic ones now that my kids want. But you will need a bey blade stadium which this is where they can play this in without it going all over. Get a sturdy one , not the cheap one, We got a good one at about 10.00 on sale.
I hope this helps! If you have any other questions , I ll ask my ds who's 11 and 6 what eles they would want with their bey blades.

The regular tops are between $5-$10. Each box comes with a top, and a launcher. Get to any flat smooth surface, and you are good to go.

DS (6YO) currently has 8 tops, and a 'stadium' wich is a big plastic bowl that you can spin and 'battle' your tops in.

If you go to Amazon.com, to the toys and games section, and search on Beyblade, you will get lots and lots of hits.

Good Luck!

DS(12) got 3 Beyblades and the Stadium last Christmas. They were a "hot item" here. Very inexpensive toy too. I think he will get the electronic one this Christmas. Perhaps from Santa.
I am so sad this is the last Santa year for you:( . He brought me stuff even when I was in college :D , and continues to this day to at least fill my stocking. Hope you all get back on his good side;) !

As a mother of a Bey Blade Addict....

Do NOT spend mega bucks on Bey Blades. You can get them at Target, Walmart and Toys R Us. The basic starter ones are around $6 a piece. To get started, you only need 2 (so you can battle!!) - unless you need to accomodate more kids. I highly recommend the plastic stadium. We tried a bowl and it just doesn't work. Plus, believe me - you want to save your floors (which became a battle zone in our house). I'm actually surprised our $6 plastic stadium has held up for a year.

The other accessories, electronic bey blades, etc - aren't really needed. My DS loves the basic beyblades just as well. There are different ones, so I guess you could get hooked on collecting them - hence the high prices on the websites.

Warning - once your DS starts - he will get addicted ;)

(A great inexpensive Easter Basket toy also...)

I think everyone covered it all pretty well here- I just want to echo dont pay over 30 bucks for ANY of the beyblade items. The basic ones are less than 7 the deluxe are about 10 and the electronic ones are 25.

Walmart should have a pretty good selection of them- Enjoy!

Another thing- Most walmarts should be having 1 or 2 more demo days of beyblades- Id check with your toy dept to see if/when theyll have them to get a good idea of what they are :)
(I got to play with some during our demo day of them and oohh they are fun!)

Thanks so much for all the info. I feel armed with facts as
I approach the stores. DS got addicted to Pokemon cards
a few years ago so I've resisted all "collect em" type toys
since then. A child I was talking to mentioned a "Dragoon"
as being cool, another one talked about the electronics.
I'm off to Target and Wal-Mart to look at the displays!!!
Toys R Us too! Thanks again!
