we are at an army base and dh waited too long. There is no e7 rank in for blues shirts (the small size).

Online to get one set of stripes that i can find is 25$! that is crazy when if the uniform store had any they would be 5$ but the manager made a mistake and only ordered large rank... which can't go on the shirts.

So if anyone is at an airbase and can get some small MSGT rank I would pay for it (pay pal?) and shipping, or if anyone knows online where i can buy it. I have been googling for it for almost an hour and there isn't even any on ebay and it's hard to swallow 25$ for a 5$ pack of rank.

We ordered it from AAFES but they said they have no idea when it will come in and he needs it in two weeks. If anyone can help out or tell me where to find it I'd appreciate it. The closest air base is 3 hours away and we dont know of anyone going there in the next two weeks.

I found this website with chevrons ranging from $6-12.50

militaryclothing.com

Check Amazon.com. I have no idea when I will get out to clothing and sales on Post or I would be happy to check for you.

Also try Ranger Joes, they have an online store.

Did you check the thrift store on base. I know that when a lot of people retire or get out they take their stuff there rather than transport it. Hope it helps.

If you haven't found one yet PM me and I will pick up one for you tomorrow at clothing sales. We are stationed in Michigan right now.

Try one of the Military Surplus stores. They are usually scattered all over the place and have a large variety of military items that soldiers have sold to make some cash. My husband is retired and he always checks there first when he is looking for something. You never know what will turn up.

Good luck!

You can get them on www.aafes.com (it's the Air Force/Army exchange website). You'll get the cheapest price from their.

Ordered them there but last time I did a web order for a uniform item it took 2 months to arrive and he ended up having to drive to the airbase to get what he needed.

See if there is a freecycle list where you are.

I just saw you're pm. The kids and I are heading out to see a movie and will pick it up for you and try to get to the post office today too

They take forever to ship. That's the problem!

::yes::, I ordered something 3 months ago and it was low availability with no shipping date available, go back online 2 weeks later, same item in stock and can be shipped asap, but my other order was still on hold:confused3. I canceled that one, ordered the other and it was here 4 days later:rolleyes2. Couldn't they have done that from the get go:badpc:

Ok, it sounds like you're good for now, yes/no? If not, PM me and I'll be happy to send you some.

If it comes up in the future, I'd like to second what a PP said about checking the thrift shops, they usually have tons of loose rank as well as clothing that might not fit your DH, but has rank you can take off of it (then you can donate the shirt right back to them, if you want...) Another source I didn't see mentioned is your local cleaner/tailor... Most of the tailors around here save the rank they take off of a shirt when they are putting new rank on. Unless you tell them you want it back, they just hoard it, and will sell it if you ask them to. (However, quick budget tip for ya, they CHARGE to take the old rank off, so invest in a $1 seam ripper and save yourself $2 per shirt by doing that part yourself...)

Now, I'd like to take a moment to "plug" my favorite project... it sounds like your DH's unit needs to start a "rank bank". It's really really easy. All you need is a box and some paperclips, though you can make it as fancy as you like.

Then anytime anybody gets promoted, separates, or for any reason no longer wants their old stuff, they can donate it to the bank (which is what you do with that rank you took off yourself, saving $2)... meanwhile, anybody who needs something can make that their first stop... worst case scenario, they don't find what they need, best case scenario, they save a fortune in rank, ribbons, and ribbon racks, plus that's gas they didn't burn. It's a bonus for the unit, as well, because that's time people are staying at work (albeit a bit distracted) instead of being gone off to clothing sales for multiple fruitless trips.

We had one of these at my last unit, and I made it pretty fancy, with one of those plastic drawer sets and little baskets inside each drawer... it still didn't cost me much, and it was right by my desk and I know for a fact it saved my peers HUNDREDS of dollars in the time I was there.

Please pitch this idea to your DH to pitch to his command. If they aren't too enthused, mention how much the "poor Airmen" can save if they recycle their old ribbon racks instead of having to buy a new one every time they get another medal. That was the biggest selling point for ours... tell him to use phrases like "taking care of our people" and "financial responsibility" :) And if DH doesn't feel like doing the work, use the phrase "EPR bullet" :rolleyes1

Call around and find an affes store that has them ask them to transfer them to your store. They will ship faster then if you order them from affes directly and you should be able to pick them up in a few days at your affes.

I believe i have some now! Thanks so much.

As for a rank box dh says there is one but that no one was promotes to smsgt in the last few months (there are only about 30 msgts here I think) so no higher rank lots of lower rank though! S for the thrift store this being an army base with only about 800 af the pickings are slim... Good idea though!

Just wanted to say thank you to your hubby and to your family for your service.

My BIL retired from the Air Force 2 years ago. He was a MSGT at the time of his retirement. He and my sister both still work for the AF at Scott.
