Need advise! Is POLY worth it?

It is an absolutely beautiful resort with a tropical feel. We would love to stay there, but cannot justify paying more than $500 a night. We feel that we only sleep there and would rather spend the extra money enjoying the parks.

We stayed at the poly last August for the first time and we did love it. We loved the convenience to MK with the monorail especially since we had a stroller. We would have never considered staying there if we didn't book through a travel agent. There are some good deals to be had around labor day. I am not allowed to tell you the name of the agency. They are releasing their special on 1/7. Maybe look into it try googling some of this info

I'm on the minority, but the Poly would totally be worth the extra cost to me. We've stayed at CBR (long time ago) and loved everything about it, but we just love the Poly as it's our favorite resort. The grounds are beautiful/relaxing and it's hard to beat seeing the castle everyday. We love the deluxe resorts so if it came down to staying more days at a mod or shortening our stay at a deluxe, I'd go for a shorter time and stay deluxe (with it not even being a question if the Poly is involved). With that said, I agree with mrsap that we also feel the deluxe resorts are worth it, but you have to be comfortable with the extra cost and one less day to switch.

Pool will be people soup in August, by the way. CBR has a better number of pools vs. guests.

Yeah the poly feature pool is surprisingly small!

Same for me. For me personally though 50% of my Disney vacation enjoyment comes from the resort. I LOVE the deluxe resorts. So again FOR ME, I would stay one less day to upgrade to a Deluxe. But that clearly varies per budget, per family, per person, per trip! We make it work by renting points for the majority of our trips. Reduces the sting quite a bit.

You do get a lot more for your money at the Poly over CBR in terms of convenience. Thats for sure. And I feel the Poly is number one in park convenience overall. But you also get to save A LOT of money by staying at a moderate.

I think Poly is worth every penny (or point!) because the theming is outstanding.
I'd rather stay fewer days in a great place so one less day wouldn't bug me.
About the $1K--in the grand scheme of things and how much money gets dropped at Disney it may be noise. The percentage of your vacation budget may or may not be affected by an extra grand.
It's also real money. Depends on your financial situation.

Can you rent points to stay in a regular Poly room (not villas or bungalows)? I’ve rented points to stay in the Beach Club villas and Animal Kingdom Lodge, but wasn’t aware of renting points for a regular Poly room.

No, but the DVC rooms at the Polynesian are just converted former hotel rooms, so their location is a lot more desirable than at either of the other places where you rented from in the past.

If your trip is 6 nights or longer, I'd recommend doing a split stay. Start out at CBR and then switch over to Poly for as many nights as you're comfortable paying. That way, it doesn't feel like you're paying as much extra because you still have some nights at CBR. And you'll get a taste of Poly so you can decide for yourself if you want to go back again.

While at Poly, be sure to plan at least one night at the resort so you can experience the MK fireworks from Poly beach or pool. I remember our first time seeing that and thinking that alone was worth the cost. We were in the pool and couldn't believe how gorgeous the show was right from where we were. It was actually our first night there, so we made sure to be at the resort the rest of our nights too!

Also, a big perk of Poly is having the TTC right there. That gives you direct monorail to both MK and Epcot. Priceless for us when we had a double stroller!

We are DVC members at the Poly and LOVE it. The room is perfect for our family size and being on the monorail line is so convenient.

No way.

Look into renting poly DVC points for your stay and see if that saves you money without losing days, or maybe try staying one night at the poly to get the fix your craving.

Along with others, no way!!! No matter how nice it is - just spend some time over there eating, etc. for free (not the eating, obviously :D

I think it is definitely worth it especially if you will have some resort time. The location and grounds are wonderful. I wouldn't mind shortening my vacation by one day but that would depend on the length of my trip. Someone mentioned a split stay and that is a great idea depending on how long you are staying. Whatever you decide, I hope you have a great trip!

For me it boils down to..how long is the trip and will you be using the amenities and also taking advantage of the monorail and TTC. If you plan for most of your time to be in Epcot and MK...and you still have enough time to do everything, and the money is not a hardship....yes....but I prefer deluxe and have no kids.

When I was a kid, my parents saved up for 6 years between trips so we could stay deluxe for 5 days. But my mom was a princess...(said in the most loving way) and did not want to stay in a outside entrance hotel room and wanted the services the deluxe hotels offer. (Less options back in the 80s/90s too)

A split stay is another option as suggested by someone else...we might do that when we go next in 2021 for MK’s 50th. We want to stay at the contemporary but expect the prices will be super inflated.

Poly has good availability for UNITS for August, but to rent a reservation for August right now, you would need to find someone who owns timeshare points at the Polynesian to make the booking. Availability will go down quickly starting Tuesday as the 7 month window opens for all DVC owners. Poly availability goes quick when that date opens.
