Need advise/ideas

Brief Background... Girl age either 7 or 9 going to hospital for a procedure. Will probably spend 5 to 6 nights over night and hospital is an hour and a half away. I work with her mom and want to give a small pre hospital/hospital gift. I know there is a big playroom at the hospital, but I am not sure what else there is to do. Sadly I have always had to shop on the blue side of the isle so I am at a loss for pink and that age group. I know she just loves high school musical. I don't know if there is a game boy type thing but I really don't want to second mortgage my house either. Looking for any ideas. Please oh wise ones of the dis board, you have never let me down before!

My DDs love playing with their whiteboards. How about a small whiteboard, some markers and an eraser? People can leave her notes on the board and she can draw or write as well.
