When I had told my DS8 that Test Track wouldn't be operating during our 1st (and possibly only :guilty: ) visit to WDW he was so bummed. We'd made lists of his must-dos and TT was at the top of his list.
So now I hear Buzz is going to be down as well. Guess what his #2 must-do is?
We arrive late on out first day & he would pretty much go straight to Buzz from the airport if we let him.
Do I tell him so that he's forewarned or do I not say anything till we get there?
I've just changed our pkg using the new code to include the pluses so DisneyQuest might soften the blow a little.

I would definately tell him, or the disappointment might be too much for someone that age to handle, resulting in an unpleasant scene. You have the right idea, though, in compensating him with something else.
Our last trip, we rode Buzz and went over to Universal and rode MIB, and frankly we all thought MIB was WAY better. Buzz fans might not agree with me, however.

sorry that you have two biggies down for your first trip. Pump up some other rides he will really enjoy. BTMRR maybe or Space Mt. You'll have such a great time with so much to do. Don't dwell on those two things once he gets there he will hardly remember they are closed.

I agree, MIB at Universal Studios (original park not IOA) is a great "shooting" ride. In my opinion, it is also way better than Buzz (and I LOVE buzz!). MIB is much more realistic...it looks like you are going through a real city, and the end of the ride has some amazing special effects! The action itself is also more fun b/c different aliens pop up that you get to shoot at, not just stationary or spinning targets. Although there are aliens like the movie, the ride is not scary. Lastly, the theming in the line area is awesome...you feel just like you're walking through the movie set!

If you little guy is really set on a ride like this, I suggest considering a day at US. We will also be in Florida during the buzz rehab, and when I broke the sad news to my bf (who is 24, but really just a big kid!) he was sad for a minute, but said, "oh well, we'll just have to go on MIB a few extra times!"

So...all is not lost.

I say tell him now so he can pick out a few other rides to get excited about.

I'm sorry that his Top 2 will both be closed but I think that DQ is a nice trade-off. Make sure that you do the PoTC, Buzz's Space Ranger Spin and the Jungle Cruise. They're all great virtual games. I know your DS will be disappointed with the news but after he sees all the other cool stuff there is to do at WDW, his mmod will brighten. Have a fun trip!

I agree with all of the other responses here...to tell him before the trip. Also there is some varying speculation about which rides are closed at which time (conflictions between various websites) so just forewarn him that things may be closed, and then check officially when you get there!

I asked my DD(8) and she said she would want to know ahead of time so she wasn't disappointed in the park. Maybe you can tell him you will ask at the park (I think MGM) when you can meet Buzz. That might soften the blow too.

If he knows ahead of time he can then concentrate on rides he wants to do that will be open. By the time you get there TT and Buzz might be a non-issue for him.
