I recently inherited some money from a distant relative. I have always wanted to purchase a DVC Membership. I am a single parent w/7 yr old. Normal vacation is 7-10 days summer Myrtle Beach/4-5 days fall or spring Disney World each year. I am thinking about HH and possibly new Resort at Disney World. I am open to any suggestions about purchasing points. Any recommendations where I should start?

Welcome to this board.
I would hook up with a DVC guide to determine first how many points you should purchase. You need to lay out a typical year, then figure how many points are appropriate and at which DVC location or locations. DVC will provide you with all kinds of marketing info. Should you know a DVC member, have them refer you (they will get a break on their yearly maintenance fees).
Get a price from DVC, then compare it to the prices and resorts available thru the timeshare store…then make your choice and pay your money. Good luck. See you at the parks.

Dittos to the above reply. I would also add my 'opinion' that if you want to consider selling your interest some time down the road, I have noticed that WDW locations tend to move faster off the Timeshare Stores inventory list, and also tend to have a higher resale value then non-WDW locations. In other words, on site DVC interests are more desireable to purchasers in the resale marketplace.

Just my 2 cents.

You should be able to get all the literature and point charts from a guide. Study them and try to decide where and when you will want to travel and make sure you buy enough points. I felt a minimum of 240 would satisfy my needs. That would allow me enough to get a Grand Villa if I banked a year, borrowed a year and used the current year's points. You can have up to 3 years of points for use in one year. You also MUST decide which resort you like the best. You will be able to make reservations at 11 months out at your home resort and only 7 months at other DVC resorts.
The system is great and very flexible if you plan everything out and realize what you are getting into. If I had bought less than 240 I would have been disappointed by what I could do. Study the point charts, study the resorts, then listen to your guide's sales pitch and ask questions. Good luck!

I'll just say "Ditto" to what everyone else has already stated. Once you have the info packet you will have a much better grasp on everything.
If you consider resales and need some questions answered, don't hesitate to write or phone. I'll help any way I can.
