Need Advice. We're planning to arrive the night before...

We've done this a few times, using Priceline. We bid and received Sheraton Safari for $29, it was an excellent deal. Nice hotel, right outside the gate for DTD. Another time we got Hilton at DTD for $60, another great deal and great place to stay for one night. Another time we were starting our vacation with 3 nites at Hard Rock at Universal. We Pricelined and got Wyndham International Drive for $30, that joint was not so nice.

we just got back from our first 18 hr drive from PA and we did not have reservations for first night there. Reason was if we were tired we were stopping where ever we were like Savannah for the night. We ended up getting to Orlando like 3-4pm and just drove around and found a place. We ended up in a travel lodge by SeaWorld. It was pretty nice - clean, bright & we were on ground floor acrossed from pool area. $69 bucks a night I think it was and well worth it. I wasn't going to drive around for something $20 bucks cheaper. I'd stay there again. We did see the new Nickelodeon hotel and that looks like a really neat place to stay. Might try there but I'm sure that is not cheap.

if you really are just looking for a place to sleep, shower, and leave, they there is no way i would consider something off property. i would stay at a value resort, even if it is a few dollars more than some off property places. you can take advantage of magical express, and disney will move your bags from the value to Poly for free. we did this before and it was great. woke up, showered, had breakfast, and headed out to AK. when we were done there, we just went to our "new" resort, and our luggage was there waiting. it was very convenient.

if you stay anywhere off property, you will need a car or taxi fare, and i'll bet at that point it will be cheaper to just stay at a value.

we are doing the same thing, with an AAA rate or a dis code you could possibly get a value resort for 66 per night, which is pretty decent in my opinion.
