So we have at trip planned Nov 10-17th, for my parents 50th wedding anniversary: mom, dad, db 45, dsis & dbil 31, me & dh 42, dh's sis 45. My brother's kids are grown and have kids of their own, the rest of us were/are childless until today.

Well... dsis started the adoption process in August. Portfolio was approved in September, profile went online Sept 25.... birth mother select my dsis & dbil yesterday... the day she gave birth. Dsis & dbil flew to Texas today. oh my!

We are thrilled and shocked. They were expecting a 4-9 month wait. (The nursery isn't ready and now we're planning the shower on the fly...) Hey the good news is that the trip will now be part of her maternity leave....:rotfl2:

So now we have a 6 week old joining us at DW. Anyone who has taken infants have any advice? We are staying in a villa offsite, just an fyi. Especially regarding ear protection and safety on rides...

I know of the" parent swap", and I've heard about baby stations... but don't know much about it.

TIA!

Disclaimer: I'm not a mom, nor have I taken a 6 week old to WDW. But I do know babies...

I recommend a sling or a bjorn or better yet, both. It will be much easier than dealing with a stroller with one so little. For any rides the newborn can ride, he or she can stay in the bjorn/sling, which will keep him/her prefectly safe...it will also muffle the sound, as will a hat, which most babies constantly wear at that age.

Since she will be using formula, look for the travel packs, they are meassured out for you and you don't need to carry around a whole container.

Pack several extra outfits. It will blow you away how many outfits a little one can go through in a day, and you don't want to have to leave the park because you are out of clothes. And pack layers...little ones get cold before any grown up will feel a chill.

Congratulations to your sister!!! The pictures will be priceless!

Not so much advise, but sending out love and congratulations (and a few tears)! Both of our DD's (now 12 and 5) were adopted. And both adoptions took place very quickly!

I so remember the days!

Thanks for the well wishes! Much appreciated!

It is very much a blessing that it all happened so fast for them. What's funny is that my parents have great grandchildren older than our new born little Noah. :rotfl2:

Great grand kids:
Ethan 6
Emma 3
Gavin 8 months
baby on the way due May 2008

Grand kids:
Matt 23
Sarah 25
Noah - few days old.

It is a mini baby boom in our family! We are planning a trip to WWD in about 3 years and take all the kiddos.

Thanks for the sling / bjorn idea. That's brilliant. I've seen them used, and it would a great way to keep Noah warm and safe. Also the travel packs of formula, that'll be a life saver. We plan to get a locker and stock up with clothes and diapers that we can use to replenish the diaper bag.

Keep the suggestions coming!

I took a 6 month old last year. The baby centers at each park were a LIFESAVER. They have a room with a TV playing a disney movie with small chairs, tables, games for older siblings, clean restrooms, separate breasfeeding room (I didn't need, but my sister has used it), and even a room filled with all baby items you may need or run out of (for a fee, or course), but it is still nice to know it is there if you run out of something or need Infant Tylenol, gas drops, etc. It is so nice to utilize to rest or to get out of rain or heat. I know the one at Magic Kingdom is next to the Crystal Palace. I think you will also want a stroller b/c the 6 week old will sleep a bunch (I could only use the sling for about an hour at a time b/c it will start to hurt your back). I used a backpack as the diaper bag and also kept my wallet and camera in it. It made for quick transitions when it was time to park the stroller. My 6 month old was horrified of the fireworks, so I would advise to stay inside for those (assuming it would be just as bothersome for a 6 week old). Honestly... Disney with a 6 month old was a lot easier than Disney with an 18 month old. Have fun!

I bet the little guy will spend most of the day sleeping. The sling was a lifesaver for me, but his carseat was as well. My little guy was four or five months when I brought him, and I was breastfeeding, a lot. The bottles will be so handy! I think the baby care place in MK is on Main Street by the place where they do the Winnie the Pooh breakfast. In Epcot, I think it's not too far from Mexico, but I know the maps will have that info for you.

And with all those adults there, you guys will be fine! People love holding little guys! This is such an exciting thing for your family! We've researched adoption and have given it a lot of thought, but we always thought it would take years, not months! That's amazing!

Best of luck to your sister and the rest of your family!

:) How exciting!!! I have taken both of my girls at this age. They slept through just about everything. I kept them in a sling. My husband does not do big rides so worked out with the trade off. The rides I could take her on or shows, I kept her in the sling. If it was really loud I would just cuddle her closer and put my hand over her ear. I always had a bottle or pacifier ready just incase. We did keep a stroller also. It helped with all the other stuff that comes along:) When we would sit to eat or rest I would lay her in the stroller to stretch out for a while. Best of luck and ENJOY!!

Very exciting news!

However, I can't imagine that it will be good for anyone, especially the baby, to take a 6-week old baby.

I do have three kids, though, and I would suggest leaving extra time for everything! The benefit of a 6 week old over a 6 month old is that the baby will sleep most of the day, every day at that point.

Fortunately you will have warm or cooler weather. It is much easier to keep a baby warm than cool.

Just make sure that there is plenty of willing help to take turns or it could turn out to be a nightmare for all!
