Planning first trip to WDW since childhood...we are a married couple in our early thirties, wanting to celebrate our 2nd anniversay. We are fun-loving and enjoy acting like kids, but also want a little break from them! Which on-site resort and/or off-site resort is best? We are planning mid-June.

The resort that comes to mind right away is the Grand Floridian. It has always struck me as the most adult resort. There will of course be children there, but it seems to get an older crowd on the whole. Congratulations on your anniversary.

I'm doing the grand tour of DVC resorts this year...OKW in just a week! But one thing that surprised was that WL/VWL was adult despite the proximity to Magic Kingdom. Something about the serenity of the place kept it from being kid-central. Oddly enough I felt BW was just the opposite. The only thing I liked about it was the gym & proximity to EPCOT.

DH and I stayed at the Grand Floridian on our honeymoon for just the reason you stated. We found, however, that we enjoyed the Boardwalk more - the proximity to restaurants, bars and entertainment. . . . We stayed at the Boardwalk a couple of years before our honeymoon and found ourselves wishing we had booked there instead of GF. On the other hand, GF has wonderful restaurants and is very romantic - also has good proximity to the Polynesian where you can take torch-lit walks at night. I haven't stayed at WL or AKL but they are both quite beautiful and have greats restaurants and lounges. I would imagine you couldn't go wrong with any of these. I would highly recommend resort hopping no matter where you end up - grab a bite to eat at different resorts each night if it fits your schedule. Have a great trip!

I also found POFQ to be very quiet and relaxing.I was there in 2000 and it was great! very peaceful, virtually no kids in the pool or hittub and the atmosphere was ver romantic.

most romantic and adult - WL or VWL - if you stay away from the main pool - the
main pool is a kid magnetic.

most adult (not really but it seems that way) - OKW - this is a very relaxed resort
like the Keys - so don't expect to see people rushing around like at the CRB or the
Contemporary. It also has a boat ride to DD.

Hi! We were at Coronado Springs in April, and saw very few kids there - I guess b/c it's a big convention hotel. When we stayed at the All Stars, there were swarms of them, so we were expecting a big difference at the GF. It was definitely quieter, but still had quite a few kids there. We saw so many little girls running through the lobby in barefoot and in bathing suits only - sacrilege!!! ;)
Cheers!

My vote's for GF. I honeymooned there and we stayed in a concierge room. We knew there would be kids floating around (it is WDW, after all), but we didn't notice them too much when we were in & around the resort.

hi: my son and dil stayed at the bwv and the gf last august on their honeymoon. they are at the wl right now on a weekend getaway. i think if you avoid the themed, main pools and stick to the quiet pools, you'll be able to avoid a lot of the kids. my vote would be bwi/bwv for their location.

I loved Animal Kingdom Lodge. I recommend the savannah view, and if you can get discounts from APs or mousesavers.com codes, all the better!

I think Wilderness Lodge has a romance to it, too. (Both AKL and WL share the same architect.)

Grand Floridian is a resort I'd love to stay if I had the money! Still, I know a few people who feel that it's too "stuffy". I get my "fix" by going to the afternoon tea. ;)

Port Orleans French Quarter is a good choice for a moderate, and Riverside is very beautiful.

Heck, I love all the resorts! Next stop for me: Polynesian.

I would say either the Grand Floridian or the Boardwalk Inn. The GF is upscale and has an air of sophistocation. The Boardwalk Inn has adult entertainment right outside your door and being that it is not on the monorail line and is close to Epcot, may attract a more adult crowd.

Whichever you decide, have a great time!

We've stayed at pretty much all the resorts mentioned in this thread. The GF was over run with kids, even in the concierge rooms. The BC also has a LOT of kids.

The BWI most definitively had the least kids, was the quietest, and seemed the most adult oriented of all the places we've stayed.

Enjoy!

Here is another vote for BWI, especially if you get one of the garden rose cottages, they have their own white pcket fenced yards, are 2 stories and very private. Deb Willis has great pictures of these cottages on her website. The boardwalk is in a fantastic location with wonderful restaurants, 2 parks within walking distance and adult night time entertainment. Try Jellyrolls on the boardwalk it is great! Avoid the main pool and you will see very few children.
OKW is also another resort where there are children but you do not see that many of them especially if you avoid the main pool. Many people refer to OKW as the "old folks home". The drawback with OKW is it is not in a very convenient location and has only bus transportation to everywhere but there is a bus to DTD that runs to about 9:45 PM. There is only 1 restaurant and no nighttime entertainment at the resort but they have the largest rooms out of all the DVC properties especially the 1 BR.
