Hi all,
I'm thinking about a mom and son (6) trip to WDW in November. I am looking into the value resorts. We have stayed at moderates (POR) and deluxes on property but never value. I am interested in hearing about other peoples' preferences. Is ASMu a better choice than POP? I am reading good things about the refurbed rooms at ASMu. Is bus service better at one over the other? Are there "quiet" areas at both resorts?

Any and all info. is greatly appreciated!
TIA!

All Star Music is my favorite Disney owned hotel.

During our stay a couple of weeks ago (September 12-19) All Star Music only shared a bus when returning from AK and DTD.
All of the buses going to the parks went directly to parks after pick up even when the bus was less than half full.
My friend and I decided in the early afternoon of one of our Disney MGM Studio days to head back to ASMu for a dip in the pool. We were the only ones on the bus that trip!

Please see my info thread for the other resons why I enjoy All Star Music so much.

----------------------------------------------------------

I stay at the values quite often and have never had an issue with noise.

The noise issues come with :

1. The main pool is located very close to some of the value rooms.

The themed pools at the mods and deluxes are set away from the rooms.

Tip: Ask for a room facing away or located a ways from the main pool.

2. Turbo toilets

The Values are newer and have the turbo toilets.

Tip: Close your bathroom door at night because noise travels through the plumbing.

3. Connecting rooms

About 50% of the value rooms have connecting doors.

Noise will travel under the connecting doors in a room.

Tip: If you have noisy neighbors open your connecting door and place a rolled up bath towel on the floor between then close and lock your connecting door.

Some guests find that a small fan or a white noise machine helps them sleep better.

These tips should help you get a restful sleep wherever you choose to stay.

Here is a list of differences between Pop and the All Star resorts.

Pop is newer.
Pop was built in 2003.
All Star Movies was built in 1999.
All Star Sports and Music were built in 1994.

All Star Music has undergone a refurbishment of all of the rooms and was completed in June 2007.

All Star Sports is slated to be refurbished between June 2007 and Feb. of 2008.

Pop has a lake. The All Stars do not have a lake.

When staying at the All Stars you use any of the All Stars pools.
The 3 All Stars are within easy walking distance of each other.

The gift shops are separate from the food court at the All Stars.
The gift shop and food court are combined at Pop.

Pop has 2,880 guest rooms. 4 floors in each building.
Each of the All Stars has 1,960 rooms. 3 floors in each building.

Both Pop and the All Star rooms are 260 square feet.

The beds at the All Stars are movable.

the beds at Pop at bolted to the floor.

The far bed at an All Star is closer to wall. And the near bed is not as close to the doorway as it is at Pop

The far bed at Pop is pulled away from the wall more. The near bed is closer to door.

For most people that would not make a difference but since I need an ECV
the bed being so near the door at Pop makes it more difficult for me to back my EVC in. :moped:

Have fun at Disney wherever you choose to stay!:wizard:

I have to say I've never stayed at any of the values but Pop but I loved it there. We always stayed deluxe before but I'd have to see a really attractive code to get me away from Pop. I loved the themeing here,as a kid I had so many of the items in the shadow boxes that are displayed around the resort. It has a huge gift shop which had some really great items in it. I enjoyed the food court but I always go at off times so I can't comment on the busy times. They had a huge variety of items offered at each meal.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how great Pop was. Our next trip is the first one utilizing their handicapped rooms and if that goes as well as the previous one, I'm hooked.

My main concern is minimizing the noise level. I would request top floor, etc., but I would like to be in an area away from the pools, etc. I have no problem with walking a little bit further to the food court and buses. I appreciate Linda's tips. I have honestly had to do the towel thing and the closing of the bathroom door at the Poly! During our first Poly stay 5 years ago, we encountered door slamming, kids running up and down the hall and shrieking on a daily basis! Fortunately, our last stay was much quieter. I think this had a lot to do with our room location, so this is why I am putting an emphasis on it for the values. What area in POP would I request if I decided to stay there?

We stayed at the POP and ASMu and thought they were both very nice and the bus service was not the greatest at either place. Both were super crowded, the food court was always packed but we still had a nice time...we are not the type that hang around the resort alot so we did not use the pool area but when we walked by them they did not seem to be too busy. (We went in Nov and Jan)

Same here, usally we do Deluxe or Mod, i let my DS9 decide where to stay this tiem, anywhere at WDW and he chosse POP

Pop sure does look like a fun place to explore. I am really torn between Pop and ASMu. Are there quiet areas at Pop where I can request a room?

I love POP, and I went to the value resorts kicking and screaming ! Am booked to return there for our fourth trip next September.

Request a standard room, upper floor, facing the lake. So peaceful and quiet back there. Walkway along the lake with benches, ducks and bunnies. A bridge with benches and seating. Plenty of quiet spots all over.

Footprint is small so not a long walk anywhere. Does not share bus with any other resort.

Great pics!
After reading through a zillion threads and reading reviews, I have chosen ASMo (standard) over (Pop &) ASMu due to the theming. The rooms look identical to ASMu and I know that my DS will LOVE the Toy Story characters and Herbie the Love Bug!

Does anyone have any advice on what I should request in order to get a quiet room at ASMo? Does anyone have anything (hopefully positive) to say about ASMo?

TIA!
