Need advice on reservation

I need advice on the best method to book a 5 night stay (Su-Th) for June of 2002. I want to book one 2 BR (144 points) and 3 studios (53 points each), a total of 303 points. I will have 142 points for the June 2001 use-year and 210 points for the June 2002 use-year. We will make the reservation at the 11 month window.

The trip will involve 5 families so the possibility of having to cancel some of the reservations is a possibility. I want the option of canceling one or more of the studios if plans don't work out. The 2 BR will not be cancelled. We have no other trips to DVC planned until then - but you know how that goes. What is the best way to keep my points flexible?

Should I bank my 142 points from 2001 to 2002 then make the reservation this July? Should I borrow 2002 year points this July when I book? Any other suggestions?

Ken,

You will not need to borrow the 2002 and points they will be avaiable during your stay so they do not need to be borrowed. You will need to bank the 2001 points. There should be no problem at all. Just make the reservations with both points, if you need to cancel make sure that they use the banked points first since they will expire sooner. The 2002 points will just go right back into your account and will need to be used before the end of your 2002 use year or you can bank them into 2003 as long as you cancel before the 30 days period and are still in your banking window.

I think what you want to do, is bank your 2001 points & use those points to book your 2 bedroom unit... you said you definitely would not be cancelling the 2 bedroom, so you want to use your banked points for that.

Since you have a June use year, you could use your current years points (2002) to book those studios... As long as you booked outside the 30 day window, those points would just go back into your current years (2002) allotment...

Just make sure that if a family must cancel let them know they have to do it at least 30 days before check-in so it doesn't mess you up!!!

Thanks to all. I thought that was the way to go. I just want to be sure to be able to use the "leftover or cancelled" 2002 year points. I'll be sure to book the 2BR with the banked points. Whew ... all the use years sure get confusing. Hope to see you at DVC one day!
