need advice on picking a stateroom

We are in the process of planning a WDW park/cruise combo trip for January of '04. There are five of us...the overwhelmed parents and the three co-conspirators also known as children.

My question is: after reading these boards very studiously, it's apparent that particularly in the value season, upgrades flow thick and fast. Should I book the cruise for 2 adjoining cat 8 or 9 rooms and pray for an upgrade, or just go ahead and get 1 cat 4 room? I would love to have the two rooms....(two words: two bathrooms) but we really can't afford to book a cat. 3, and we really would love a verandah. Any advice?

I have never gone on a Disney cruise but am planning one for Dec. 03. We have 4 children. I don't know your budget or tastes, so take my novice advice as you wish. We are planning on booking 2 Cat 10 adjoining rooms. We have been on a non-Disney cruise before and we know that we spend VERY little time in the room, so the room isn't important to us. We would rather spend our money elsewhere. If I were you, I'd book the 2 Cat 8 or 9 rooms and hope for the upgrade. Book what you can afford and the lowest level comfort you are willing to accept. That way you are at least at an acceptable comfort level if you don't get the upgrade.

JMHO but I'd go with the assurance of a veranda. A cat4 would give you a split bath--two toilets. Do you really need four?

A Cat 4 has a split bath, but that's only ONE toilet. For two toilets, you have to go at least Cat. 3. They are talking getting adjoining rooms OR one Cat. 4, right?

We went on the Disney Wonder in August and had two cat. 5 adjoining rooms. We are 5 , 2 adults and 3 kids. Having the 2 bathrooms helped alot when getting ready for dinner or in the morning. We are going again in April and got the same thing. Having the verandah is really nice. Good luck with your decision.

My only advice is to get what you need now. Althought it may not seem like it when you read these boards, but the chance that you will be upgraded is VERY slim. I'd say go with the balcony room and be done with it. That way you won't spend the time hoping for an upgrade and being dissapointed when/if you don't get one.

yeah, we were talking about 1 cat 4 or two cat 8 or 9 rooms. I think the guarentee of a verandah is winning out over the bathrooms....Kate the marathon groomer and Emily the queen of preen will just have to make do with what they have. *g* Thanks for the tips....I knew I could find some sympathetic ears here.

How old are the kids?

How about a room with a veranda (maybe a Cat 7 or 6) and a category 10/11/12 across the hall?

How about connecting cat 6's or is that too pricey?

Just some ideas.

By the way, I think the fury of upgrades going on lately is out of the norm so you definitely should book the minimum you would be happy with because the chance of upgrade is pretty slim.
