Need advice on Nassau scuba diving

Add me to the list of divers who want to dive during a Disney cruise. I'll get re-certified at Vortex Springs in northern Florida this spring. I'm planning to be on Disney Wonder October 30-November3.

Can't speak for any local divemasters, as last time I was down there a friend hooked us up with a great guy who used to be a dive instructor in the British Navy. Took us out about a mile off the beach across from the Atlantis to a spot called Triple Wrecks in 90 feet of water. He took me through the hold of one of the wrecks and out a porthole; lots of fish in there, and it was a beautiful dive, but I remember a slightly disconcerting feeling looking up from within the ship's hold and seeing nothing but black. Very, very exhilarating.

Its my understanding there's another local spot where a ship and a plane from some of the old Bond movies are resting. That sounds like fun too.

Well, my boy and I got certified over Presidents weekend in FL. I'm still trying to get my ears cleared up. I won't book the excursion for the cruise until I know that I can dive without hurting my ears.

Lord willing, I'll feel better in a couple days (I'm on some medicine after seeing an ENT doctor yesterday).

I just got around to trying to make a reservation through Stewart Cove for a custom Dive package for the one day I was going to be in Nassau because of the DCL debarkation late time I couldn't find any scheduled tours (other then DCL) that fit the schedule.

I called Cove's reservation line to set up a custome 3 or 4 take all day dive and suddenly got a flat out "we cannot help you" as soon as I mentioned I was on a DCL cruise. They said that because of their contract with DCL the only thing they could offer was a shark dive. (my wife hates anything with a bigger mouth than me - hehehe) If I wanted to do a dive I would have to do the DCL excursion. Quite a shock.

It looks like I'm either going to have to go with someone else or forget to mention I'm a cruiser and call back in.

How odd.

Interesting. Is DCL contracting exclusively with Stuarts now? One of the (many) reasons we would never book through DCL is that they wouldn't tell you who you would be diving with. It's not cool that DCL has restricted our ability to book on our own though.

I was on the Wonder in Oct. and decided against doing the Disney cattle car dive with SC. after researching on scubaboard dot com i went with NSC. There are much smaller, offer nitrox and fit the port times. Good Diving

Anyone look at the PADI site yet? This was the first place I looked when we were looking into where to do our dive in Nassau. I won't book a ship sponsored dive, so I am still deciding. I was leaning towards Stuart Cove, but I would rather not go with the same company that is providing the service for DCL. In case anyone is interested, here is the link. It may offer some other suggestions!
