We have planned on surprising my son for a pre cruise trip to Universal and IOA. He loves roller coasters, but had never been on any really large, complicated coasters until last weekend.

Anyway, we have put a lot of money into this surprise...staying at PBH for two nights and have tickets to IOA for one day (5 of us). Last week, my son went on a church event where they ended up at Six Flags Over Texas. He told us that he rode a coaster called Mr. Freeze and became sick the second time he rode it. Now I am afraid that he will not want to get on any coasters at Universal. The rest of the family is not too keen on them either, so we were only doing the IOA trip for him. We hate to waste money on IOA if no one is going to ride the rides. We have been to the other park before, so that is not an option for a plan change.

Has anyone been on this ride, Mr. Freeze? Is there any ride at IOA that my son should stay away from based on his other experience?

If he rides the coasters more than once (in a row), he may get sick. Make sure to pace yourselves with FOTL access. Do each ride once and then go around and start over. I get sick easily and have NO problem at IOA. If not you may want to consider going back to Universal Studios. They have added alot of new attractions since your last trip. Revenge of the Mummy, Shrek, Jimmy Neutron and more....

Have fun!

Great surprise!

Hey thanks...that's just what I needed to hear.

I would love to go back to Studio's, but IOA is all he has talked about for a few years now.

Then definitely go! You won't regret it. Neither will he! Have a great time!

There's always motion sickness pills. My 3 dd's 8,10 & 12 take (OTC) bonine. It's chewable and lasts for 24 hours. Of course ask your Dr. if it's ok first.

They are prone to motion sickness, more so in the car than on the rides, but they like to take it "just in case".

Don't worry your son will have a wonderful time. You all will!!

We take Bonine (Meclizine) on the cruise. It didn't occur to me to use it for "ride" motion sickness. Maybe a half pill, since it sometimes makes us sleepy even if it is non-drowsy.

I've been on Mr. Freeze and although IOA doesn't have coasters like that, there are coaster that can be intense. Dueling Dragons is probably a wilder Batman: The Ride at Six Flags Over Texas. The Hulk is launched, but a pretty good ride.

Make sure that you try out the bonine first. We took it at Universal and were so sleepy for 24 hours. I forgot if I half-dosed it like I usually do medications, but it really wiped us (my, my DH and my DD) out. Next time I'm going to try the Seabands.

Wow.....Dramamine usually knocks us out but bonine? Never. I guess you never know.

There is MUCH more to IOA than just coasters. The only intense coasters are Hulk and the Dragons. There is a LOT more to see and do. You'll have a great time.

i have been on mr. freeze and loved it.
the only time i felt dizziness was last summer i got to ride it 17 times in a row without getting off. suggestion: don't ride it 17 times in a row non stop.

it has a quick start, has loops like the usual rollar coasters, goes forward and then returns to the station going backwards. kewl.............

OK...half a Bonine...no Hulk and the Dragons (for DH and myself)...no riding the coasters twice (or multiple times in a row  ) and more to the park than just coasters.
What is the name of the "drop" ride., That looks like it would be like riding the Tower of Terror. I love that ride! :D

My high school students took me on Mr. Freeze and I have been on all the rides at IOA. IMHO, Mr. Freeze is more intense than any thing at IOA.

Deuling Dragons can make you quiesy if you ride it over and over. The G-forces on an inverted pull blood from the brain as you are pushed down into the seat. To me, Ice is more intense than Fire. I'd say to ride Fire in the 2nd or front row, then wait for the front row of Ice so you can see the wall effect. The extra time waiting for the front will give more time to recover. Hulk has some Gs, but he'll be ok riding it once.

I take them at night right before bed. This way I sleep off most of the drowsiness (and i can get away with a drink at dinner LOL)

Hi Familyof14!

The name of the drop ride is 'Doctor Doom's Fearfall'. It is much more intense than the 'Tower of Terror'. It's fun!

Definitely go to IOA. It is amazing!

I agree that Dr. Doom is fun, but I don't think it's more intense than ToT. It's actually very different, as you are shot UP very fast (once) but then come down slowly, whereas ToT drops you without warning (several times). Dr Doom is much shorter also, with no "preshow". I guess it all depends on the individual. Anyway, IOA is lots of fun, even without the rollercoasters. Have a great time!

We took our Bonine in the evening, expecting to be fine by morning if it made us sleepy at all. I'll have to say that I usually have the opposite reaction to a medication and I often half-dose. Never again, unless I want to me knocked out for 24 hours.
