Hi- I am a single dad that has planned on taking my 2 boys (6 and 3 1/2 now)
to WDW next fall.
I have been planning for awhile and feel like I really know what I want... all of a sudden, I saw some awesome airfares for 2nd week of December - THIS DECEMBER...
I have the vacation days available, so I was wondering if I could pull off a trip in this amount of time for a little less than 3 months away. Want to go to character meals and popular eating spots as well. just didnt know if, even though it is an "off-season" time, I would be able to get reservations and such... I can wait until next year, but just got awfully excited when I saw the fares and started trying to find reasons that I shouldnt go now... Can it be done properly? advice? Thanks in advance!

Of course you can pull it off! Some popular character meals might not be available but some surely will, especially if you don't mind dining at slightly off peak times. And no matter what, you will have an awesome time, you'll be at Disney World!!!

Why not? As Wasabi said, you'll have to be flexible with your times for the character meals, but you should be able to get in to at least a few. Go. Have a blast!

We recently added to plans for our next trip because of an airfare sale. Made sense to go a day earlier. Also, go on to disney dining now and see what's there -- you might be surprised. We are going in January and yesterday I saw that Chef Mickey was still available. With boys if you are into character meals I would check that or Crystal Palace. Don't rule out late lunches. Also consider a Very Merry Christmas party if your dates work out. In early december, lines can be much less at the party. For a first trip, I would only try to avoid the going during holiday weeks. Best of luck with your plans.

I was there that week back in 2009, and the parks were the least busy I've seen them. We walked on almost everything, and that was with the Free Dining promotion and the Free Birthday Day promotion going on.

As has been said, you can definitely pull it off, you just might not get the 'best' meal times, and places like Chef Mickey's (easily the most popular Character Meal) will probably be fully booked. But, there will definitely be places to eat, and you can always keep checking to see if people have cancelled for any places you want but didn't get.

I planned a Disney trip in 2 weeks last February, if I can do it, so can you! Have a great time.
