We will be spending the night in New Orleans in a few weeks before a cruise and was just wondering what there is to do that is inexpensive. Since we have never been on a cruise I don't know how much money we will need so don't want to spend a fortune in New Orleans which I'm sure I could do, LOL!

We are planning to drive down on Sunday (about 6 hours) so will be there around 3 and then spend the night. I was thinking of staying somewhere in the French Quarter. Place de Arms is a place I am looking at.

Any suggestions on somewhere nice to eat that night and places to go? We aren't partiers so really don't want to go to bars.

Get on this thread and ask this question if you dont get many responses on here. Its an all N.O folks thread and they will have the 411 for you. They will prob also let you know if where you want to stay is in a safe area, which is a pretty important thing to know right now.
I really cant help you , except to say the Port of Call has the best damn burgers in the world, its something not to be missed and I also love Mothers for their black ham biscuits. I used to know some other good places, but some of that is closed now. I love Asian Cajun used to be on Decatur and now has moved to Oak St. Jaque Imos (sp?) is supposed to be good also, but not sure where it is.
Have fun, ive never been on a cruise either, my friend went in May and I think she said they spent about 1500.00 extra.

There is a place to eat off bourbon on Conti, called Oceana Grille. Just to die for food with great prices.

I would just walk around the french quarter and go down Royal st and maybe look at the french market. Definetly have some hurricanes at Pat Obrians. I find new orleans to be a very affordable city.

I am going for superbowl weekend. I can't wait.

This was one of my favorite places to dine when we lived there: http://www.redfishgrill.com/. Good food, fun atmosphere, not hugely expensive (not cheap though; it is owned and operated by the Brennan family!). It is on the first block of Bourbon St from Canal.

We moved about 9 months before Katrina, and the kids and I are going back for our first visit (hubby has been back on business several times) in about 5 weeks! Redfish Grill is already on my list of places to eat!
