Hi Everyone,
We are making our first trip to Disney with our 8 month old son July 5-10th. My husband and I have been to Disney several times a year for the past few years, but we have never taken a baby!! Do you have any tips about flying-what to take on the plane or what to do if he cries, what to pack in the diaper bag for the park or things/rides a baby can do down there? Can he go on the Dumbo ride and things like that in the MK? My mom, dad, sister and brother-in-law and his mom are going with us also so we will have lots of help. We've all been to disney a bunch of times so we aren't planning on running ourselves ragged, just going to relax and take our time. I was planning on taking the McClaren (SP?) stroller because I heard you can't rent strollers at the resorts- we are staying in the Beach Club Villas and want to make sure we have a stroller to push him around the lake. We are also going to stop and buy some baby food at the grocery store in FL beacuse we aren't sure what is allowed on the plane. Again, and tips/advice are appreciated for this first time mom!!

We took our oldest for her first trip when she was 9 moths old and it was easier than I expected!

Since you have extra help, it'll be a breeze! It was just myself and DH for our trip.

I can't give advice for the plane as we drive....but...

There are a ton of rides you can go on with the baby! Dumbo, It's a Small World, Snow White, PeterPan, Winnie the Pooh....pretty much anything a pregnant person can do - you can too!

Our dd loved the characters so that was a highlight for us! Great photo's from that!

As for food and diapers...definitly hit the stores before getting to Disney!!! They have things available in the resorts and the Baby centers in the parks but the price is much higher!!!!

Defintly bring your own stroller. The baby will be much more comfortable in it.

Have a great trip!

First off congratulations on your new addition! As for traveling with an infant I can offer a few thoughts from what my wife and I have experienced. We have 3 kids (4,2, and 4 months) and will also be at Disney in July. Each of our kids has been on their first Disney trip at about the 4 month mark, and every year after that as Disney has become an annual destination for us.

  • Relax and enjoy - believe it or not an 8 month old is far easier than a toddler (the fun things that are to come :rotfl:)
  • For the plane - its just like any other outing so diapers, wipes, clothes and a few bottles, look at http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/index.shtm for details from the TSA about what can and cannot go past security - rules are a bit different when traveling with little kids
  • In the parks - grab a map and learn where the baby care centers are - they are a perfect place to cool off a bit and feed your son
  • Take whatever stroller your son likes - a comfortable baby is a HAPPY baby
  • Don't worry if he cries on the plane, you getting worked up only makes it worse (experience talking here) just stay calm and do what you can to sooth him, no one likes a screaming baby but anyone with kids does understand
