need advice for podcast in car, via cd player

help, I gotta get me one of these things. I wanna listen with DD in the car. Who knows what is the best to buy? I only have a CD player. I hear FM convertor will work ok, anyone tell me a brand or anything else??? what are you all using successfully?

We bought a Griffin iTrip for the PT Cruiser and it works suprisingly well.

We have an auxillary port in the other car so we're kind of spoiled - the iPod really sounds best when you have a direct connection. We tried various FM transmitters and all worked well but there was always some sort of static - this one really works great.

You plug it into your cars cigaratte lighter so it also charges your iPod. It doesn't go through the CD player - it goes through the radio.

i think the trick with the FM converter is finding a clear station. hopefully I will be able to upgrade my cd player so my Ipod will just be able to plug in!

The problem I had with the (cheap) transmitter I tried is that we have a lot of FM stations in our area that occupy the narrow part of the spectrum in which that transmitter operated. As a result, we had a hard time finding 'space' for the transmitter to use. Try to find one that can operate over a broad part of the FM dial, not just, say, 88 to 91 or something like that.

I have tried doing this however...UNLESS there is another way...the cd only holds like 80 minutes and the podcast that I burned onto it was a bit longer then that so I did not get it all.

it helps you find a clear frequency. In our area (north central WV) finding a reasonably clear frequency is not hard. However when we are on the road, it can be a challenge. This handy little utility has helped me plan a couple of trips.

We bought a new Accord last year. It was the last model that didn't have an auxilliary input, and it is virtually impossible to hook the iPod up to it the car's stereo system. And the stereo head unit is impossible to replace. Eventually I'm going to have a few four letter words with Honda regarding this oversight.

I've used an FM transmitter for quite a while to listen to podcasts/music from the iPod through the radio.
As John says a direct connection will be better and I'm hoping to find a solution to this that does not require a big garage job

iTunes has started to offer to split podcasts over two cd's if necessary. I thought in older version it got all huffy if you tried to burn something that was too long. I maybe wrong about it being a new feature, but I managed to do burn over two cd's with one of Leo Laporte's podcasts this week.

If your car CD player can play MP3 files then you can create an MP3 CD, which is not constrained to the 80 minute audio CD limitation. This way you could get over 20 shows on the disc, up to 700MB. When I did this, I used a CD-RW disc so I could keep re-using the same disc.

Please let us know if you are successful in your search. I tried two different models, don't remember the brands right now but I got them both at Best Buy and neither would work well. Every spot they found, I would turn the dial to and there would either be a ton of static or a station playing on that frequency.

I have a six year old Sante Fe that has a cassette player, so I bought a $14 cassette converter for my ipod. The sound isn't that great, but for spoken word (I listen to audio books mostly) it's not bad.

My next car will hopefully have a direct connection.

Age as well. Almost any cd player released in the last three or four years plays MP3s. In the end the simplest thing to do is burn an MP3 CD (change the format setting on the Advanced->Burning preference in iTunes) and try it.
